Not sure when it was but I can confirm that the starting salary sent out on contracts is now £28,258.
Can’t confirm if HEX is any different though.
Hmmm. Okay. Well, I just get ready for a life of potential £26,000 for 7-8 months hahahaha. Anymore would be a bonus.

How’s the training going Ebee? Start at HEX 24th Feb :)
It's good I'm enjoying it started driving last week. The classroom is really intense get used to studying all week there is a lot to take in and don't be afraid to ask for help. All the drivers are really friendly and helpful

No probs! And well done!
One more thing. I’ve completed all of the online stuff and sent off my signed contract. Is there anything else that should be expecting contact wise or is that it until nearer the start date? Just wondering if I need to check my emails every hour lol.

They will send you joining instructions for your first day etc nearer the time about 2 weeks before. They will send you some travel cards and I think that's it for now. You get most of the other stuff like ID cards when you've started

You’ll be put up in a hotel if your Home Depot is over 90-mins travelling time from the training facility. I was in a hotel in Bristol (several hotels in the end). It’ll be for around 15/16-weeks Ish.

Strangely, one of my letters/emails from GWR said if I required accommodation to let them know, which I did. Probably worth bearing in mind if you are going to need accommodation, just in case. They will usually give you several weeks worth in a batch, and then you’ll have to remind them again that you’re running out of accommodation;).

If you have accommodation are any meals provided?

The welcome pack I received said Breakfast and Dinner +£5 a day for sundries (newspapers and soft drinks) are provided. A mate of mine who used to work at the training school said buffet lunch is provided as well.

We were in Swindon for a couple of days most of our training is in reading. They won't put you up for either as Paddington is 25 mins to reading and 1 hour from Swindon

I am paying for my own hotels in reading as they won't put me up. My travelling time is 1.5 hours to reading the the morning and 1.5 to 3 hours home driving. Public transport is not really an option for me as I live in herts.

You get a £25 per night meal allowance and the £5 sundries, however the hotels differ on what you can use the sundries on so beware.

That’s the problem, if you live up to an hour from your Home Depot in the wrong direction, it’s just not feasible to travel to training on a daily basis.

Cannot thank you enough. Really good info. And is it 9-5/8-4 whilst in class? Last one too, what is your leave schedule like, as I know they shall be doling it out, as per the example in the Train Driver Handbook ? Thanks again as it makes planning my life, somewhat easier.

Hahaha. Gotta be ahead as always hahaha. I think as Ebee said for us Hex trainees, we won't get that luxury hahaha.

Sorry to jump in!

After your conditional offer and medical etc, how do you get your formal offer? Is it by E-mail or post please? I had to have further investigations done which turned out to be nothing, and now I’m cutting it fine to hand in my notice!!

Thanks in advance

Through email, and then you login to begin onboarding. Contract should follow a few days after you have the formal offer from the portal.
