A long shot but could she keep Bitterne company at Margate - at least for the short term?

Short term I think that's a very real possibility. There are not many places than can offer secure undercover storage for such a large locomotive and until Mr Cameron can work out a long term loan agreement with a railway or museum it may very well find it's way in the former Hornby factory. We'll just have to wait and see.

Off topic, I had thought Bittern was to be overhauled. Is Margate/display only long term?

Thank you. One of the really sad things about railway preservation is stuff deteriorating outside after lots of work has been done.

Apparently hopefully moving to Southall tomorrow and covering the RTC Lincoln trip on Saturday in lieu of the Duchess.
All being well of course.
It has apparently failed again (at Kings Langley) during the move this afternoon.

My lad travelled from Euston to Liverpool today and saw a light A4 somewhere along the route. Anyone know which loco it was, he said it was green?

The one that is the subject of this thread. Number 9 is awaiting road transport to take it back to Bury.

I remember seeing Bittern half-repaired in the mid 80's. I think it was at Dinting?

Thanks for the confirmation Matt

The current Heritage Railway magazine quotes John Cameron as saying 'The future of the locomotive [60009] as a static exhibit is under review' after the planning application for his new tourist attraction was accepted without the addition of the display shed for the two locomotives.

On the surface, it would appear that he's reconsidering the idea. I really hope so; both UoSA and The Great Marquess are lovely locos which are both popular and useful on the mainline and heritage railways.

Speaking of the Marquess. She an almost ideal locomotive for the North Yorkshire Moors. As the Moors is pretty well the same sort of twisty turny switch back line as the West Highland line, also adding she saw out her last boiler certificate on the Moors........
