Sunday 8th last northbound Chieftain HST
Monday 9th last southbound Chieftain HST
Monday 9th first northbound Chieftain IET
Tuesday 10th first southbound Chieftain IET
Thank you. Is this a fairly definite plan, do you know, or liable to change?

It states in the latest Railway Herald that LNER are footing the bill for the HST repaint , not sure what’s going to happen when LNER dispense with it .

Does anyone know what the arrangement will be for the switchover of the Highland Chieftain?

First Azuma is down as 9th Dec which is a Monday - so does that mean there will be an HST southbound and Azuma northbound on that day... or will the last HSTs be on the Sunday 8th, in both directions?

I'm hoping HamworthyGoods's reply at Post 181 is correct, it sounds ok.

I've a ticket for the Chieftain to Perth on Monday 9th. It was only a couple of weeks ago that I found Advance tickets and seating reservations available. The seat reservations are as for HST coaches so it does sound hopeful that I can get the last "full size" HST up to Slochd. I had wondered whether there might have been hesitance in case the weekend engineering work needed to be extended?
Bought a ticket in October to come back from Newcastle on the 9th on what should be the first service Azuma into Inverness, but getting through to Newcastle on the Chieftain for a sensible fare wasn't possible at that time. So heading across to Dundee and getting 1E15(?) ex Aberdeen from Dundee to Newcastle for a bargain Advance 1st (less that it would have been getting the same train at Waverly), and seat reservations are also as for HST coaches. So looking forward to a good day out.

Just wondering (please point me in the right direction if it's been mentioned up thread). Are the last HST services from Aberdeen around the same time?

Ah. LNER seem quite willing to embark on expensive publicity stuff. Such as bringing Mallard out and what not. Very interesting. Especially as EMR are just replacing LNER stickers with EMR ones.

I think the last Aberdeen ones are a week later.

Does anyone know about set EC57?

Is this set currently still in use with LNER? And is this one of the sets going to EMR?

Just had a day on the ECML, travelled on both HST and Mk4.... can’t help but think the HSTs are in much better condition than the 91 / Mk.4 combination.... maybe goes some way to explaining why the HSTs are off to storage for possible re-use, whilst the Mk4s are off to Booths...

Just seems odd 43367 isn't going as that is the newest one LNER had. It was only 38 years old (built in 1981).
Not odd at all. Decisions are made based on engineering reasons, such as when it is next due bogie change, when the engine is next due QL3 or QL4 overhaul etc etc.

As an aside isn't 43367 a likely candidate for power car to have had the highest number of different engine designs - believe it had Paxman Valenta, Mirrless MB190, Paxman VP185 (fairly sure it was fitted) then MTU 4000? Happy to be proved right or wrong.

43167-170 have all carried all the engine types, but 43167/367 shades it as it went Valenta > MB190 > VP185 > Valenta > MTU 4000.

Not all of them. Only 9(?) sets are going to EMR
Indeed; Six of the ten Angel Trains sets and three of the five Porterbrook sets. For completeness I think that Locomotive Services are interested in one of the unaccounted for Angel Trains sets and the remaining two Porterbrook sets are reportedly going for scrap.

They will take the ones neededing the least engineering time spent on them.

The ine above might be due an overhaul or major component replacement. It might just be finished.

I notice that 43206 and 43312 which are having cosmetic surgery for the farewell tour are Angel owned. Expensive paint job to original livery. Don't suppose LSL would be interested in that set at all ! :)

Reportedly Richard Clinnick of RAIL magazine asked LSL if they were interested specifically in the repainted set and the response was that considerations as to individual vehicles were ongoing. Though they would say something like that if not ready to make a public announcement anyway.
