Before trying that, check that you are still in possession of the credit/debit card that has apparently been used. If it turns out that you have lost it, get in touch with your bank to get it blocked and reissued.

If you still have the card, you still need to talk to your bank. I suspect that they will still want to block and reissue - but they are probably the people you want to talk to first about getting your money back.

Thanks. I will do. For now i just block my card.
Does it happen often? a situation like mine?
Do they ever follow those people and punish them?

This is undoubtedly an issue for your bank to deal with. And yes, people's cards get cloned and misused all the time.

You must report this to your bank straight away (just blocking the card in online banking is not sufficient). As long as you haven't acted negligently then the bank is responsible for refunding you.

Though if the OP has waited six days knowing about the issue it is possible he will not be refunded in full, as waiting that long to report an issue while aware of it withouth having any mitigation (e.g. being in rural Scotland wild camping for 5 days and so not knowing about it) will be considered negligent.

If this happens you MUST report it IMMEDIATELY you become aware of a transaction you did not authorise. That way the bank has to refund in full.

Though presumably he's just looked at his statement and seen all six charges for the first time.

I certainly don't check my account every day.

I once had a card stolen and reported it stolen. It had been used several times for contactless payments between losing it and it being blocked. The transactions didn't show up on my online banking for a day or two.

I notified my bank as soon as I saw them show up and was fully reimbursed.

Just have a chat with your bank. They will help out.

Yes, if he's reported it the first time he saw it then that would be fine (even if that's on a traditional paper statement at the end of the month if not using online banking). I read it, possibly incorrectly, as saying that he had been watching it.

The key is to report it as soon as you reasonably can after seeing it and you will, provided you are not responsible (e.g. by leaking your PIN), have it fully refunded in due course. If it's your debit card and your only source of funding so you'll really be stuck without, you may want to take some cash out first, but do it quick.

I've got too used to Monzo where I'm notified of every transaction as it occurs! :)

Please be aware that fraudsters often attempt a few low value transactions first to test whether the card holder is being vigilant. When they are sure they are not, they will attempt high value purchases on the card.
If you haven't already spoken to you bank, do it now, this minute.

The OP needs to report the matter to their bank (or care issuer). They must do this as soon as they become aware of the problem.

It is not for them to try to recover the funds from the retailer as it is not a problem with a transaction they have authorised.

Some people may not become aware of fraud on their account until they next time they check their balance, log into online banking or receive a statement the following month. It is therefore not uncommon for there to be some delay. However, now that the OP is aware of it, they need to speak to their bank urgently (i.e. pick up the phone and call them NOW).
