What have you got against Palmerston, Callaghan, Woodrow Wilson, Lyndon Johnson, Abraham Lincoln, Macron and any others I can't think of.

Ardern (as in Jacinda), Morrisson (Scott), Marin (Sanaa, the new Finnish PM), Leyen (Ursala von der Leyen EU President).

I even got a personal letter from Boris Johnson yesterday asking me to vote for him so he could get brexit done, apparently. He has never written to me before!

My Father and step-mum got some of those from David Cameron once, when they were out of the country and had redirected their mail to me. I dimly recall Theresa May sending one to our household last time round too. I don't think they had much impact on our household!

One thing I did note is that this year's Conservative pamphlets mailed to us all had a footnote explaining that they got our address and details legally from the electoral register. None of the other five parties' papers bothered to explain that.

We’ve had no fewer than 100 separate leaflets, letters and other paper communications sent to us during this election campaign. Roughly 80% from the Lib Dem’s (often 3 a day), 18% from the Conservatives, including a late flurry in the last week, and 1 each from Labour and an independent.

Some addressed personally, some from the party leader, some from the candidate, some generic.

All sent straight to the recycling bin.

You are, in Mrs. Swinson's own words, in a Lib Dem Target Seat

So on this day we have the usual newsless day when nothing much is happening in the UK except for "people are going to the polls". I wonder what would happed if there was a political protest in London, or a disaster which clearly was a result of government (mis)management somewhere. The news today is stuffed with things that apparently are too trivial to report. It's all the result of purdah of course. For what that means, look here:

Oooops!

What about (god forbid) a real disaster like a terror attack or another Grenfell Tower? I imagine this is a good day for companies to release inconvenient truths as well as they are unlikely to get news coverage...

Thanks for the link, - I shall dip into that later today.

Ah!, a Jo Moore event. Of course the press can continue with impunity publishing the political versions of reality according to each one of their respective millionaire owners. Does the law presume that they don't have any political influence?

Here in safe Tory Tatton, just about nothing.
A desultory piece of paper shoved through the letterbox by Liberal Democrats.
Nobody bothered to ring the bell and try to engage me in any way, and I'm in all the time.
One letter from Conservatives who were slightly switched on because they wrote to postal voters before the postal votes were issued.
I don't engage with "social media" so I may have missed some activity.
Electoral Calculus (https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/orderedseats.html) puts Tatton as the 198th. safest Tory seat, which just shows how many safe seats there are, with 72.4% turnout, 56.1% of whom will vote Conservative. Labour second with 27.5%. Let's see.

Similar story here in Central York. There has been no canvassing by any party. As for leaflets, a couple from Labour, a couple from the LibDems, a couple from the Greens, and one each from Tory, SDP, and Brexit — and most of these appeared to have been delivered by Royal Mail rather than by party supporters. And around where I am, no window-posters for any party. The only way you'd know there was an election has been from the news media. As to "social media", obviously an enormous amount of general stuff, but I haven't received any targeted stuff that I am aware of. So many safe seats + FPTP = no chance for any real democratic participation.

Same in Hitchin & Harpenden. In the last month I’ve rarely opened my front door without being greeted by a pile of Lib Dem propaganda - some of it rather sneaky, we’ve had some dressed up to look like some kind of local newspaper and only being conspicuously Lib Dem once a couple of pages inside, and another flyer just this week strongly intimating that there’s no Labour candidate and anyone who was planning to vote Labour should vote Lib Dem instead.

Wasted their money here - all this household will be voting Conservative, indeed that’s where I’ve just come back from.

I’d say Lib Dem’s probably have a realistic chance in St Albans, here is less likely as it’s a massive majority to overturn, although there has been an influx of ex London types over the last few years.

In my constituency Labour have, in the past 10 days, really ramped up their PR effort. They must think they have a chance in MK south. I just cant see it even though the Conservative majority is only 1700 ish

I don’t see Labour doing well in “commuter belt” seats - I’d presume MK South counts as that?

I think Labour are going to do well in London, but not elsewhere. How that affects the final result will depend on tactical voting and how all the various factors come together.

Wow, didn't know you lived in my constituency (St Ives)! Ours is almost exactly the same in volume and proportion as yours, but the Tories have managed to hand deliver three separate letters correctly addressed to somewhere down the road. How indicative of their competence, ha ha! Incidentally, today's i newspaper predicts a LibDem gain here from the Tories in a 56% leave vote seat, which really would be remarkable, given there was no agreement for the Greens to stand down and Brexit party are not standing.

Well, combining trains and politics, yesterday I travelled home next to a couple of posh boys and a posh girl (who however remained silent throughout, who were headed back to London after canvassing for Labour in South Middlesbrough which was won by the Conservatives last time around.
They were well spoken and friendly (the lads anyway) and gave a good account of how they got on after I barged into their conversation to ask. Of course, I was left with that funny feeling that I had met a couple of metropolitan political class types parachuted in because there's an election, and who wouldn't be seen dead on Teesside the rest of the time....

Your last comment sounds rather pertinent I’d say.

Sounds like a Farage contingent - oh, silly of me, his lot won't be standing there of course.

I've had leaflets from all the parties standing (SNP, Labour, Lib Dems, Green & Brexit Party) except the Conservatives, which is no surprise given the candidate standing got suspended from the party following the discovery of antisemitic and homophobic remarks made online.

I'm fairly certain my seat (Aberdeen North) will remain with the SNP.

shamefully lost by Corbyn Labour. It is a constituency that includes such Tory heartlands as Brotton, Loftus, Skiningrove and Skelton. I have family there. Thye had a good MP in Tom Blenkinsop who stood down.

On Sunday i was waiting for my train home from Euston and there were a large number of London based Labour people getting off trains from the midlands. They had clearly been to a campaigning event judging by the stickers and placards.

Maybe she's busy checking her expenses. :)

She actually called at home - my son told her not to expect any support. Masses of local canvassing , especially from the Lib Dems who are working very hard to capture St Albans , - could be interesting.

I think this sums things up. Corbyn just doesn’t offer anything to these areas, in fact on the contrary if anything he’s something of a threat. And if Corbyn isn’t enough of a turn-off then there’s Diane Abbott to blow the candle out fully!

Putting Syrians in Chequers or lowering the voting age to 16 simply doesn’t cut in to local issues - as I see it at least.

The more I think about it the more I think the Lib Dems will win St Albans. I don’t think they will H&H though. I wouldn’t bet money on *anything* in this election other than that Labour will hold places like Hackney!

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
In my constituency there's been an absolute flood of LD flyers coming through the door since the election was called. Not a single Labour one, and just one each from the Tories and Brexit Party. Thing is we already have a Lib Dem MP, he happens to be their deputy leader.

My neighbouring constituency may potentially have its own Portillo moment tonight. The LDs are campaigning hard to kick out Dominic Raab and it'll be a popcorn moment when the returning officer steps up to the mic.

The biggest threat must be from John McDonnell rather than Diane.
