The more I think about it the more I think the Lib Dems will win St Albans. I don’t think they will H&H though. I wouldn’t bet money on *anything* in this election other than that Labour will hold places like Hackney!

I suspect a very good chance - nothing of any sort from Labour (and we had an MP from them within memory - and a very good one to be fair) , there may have been a deliberate easing off to help the LD's (who knows) - I would imagine Hitchin-Harpenden is absolute solid and safe for the incumbent.

I can't speak for others views but i think the big failure of Labour and the Lib Dems in Scotland is that their only real message has been "Stop SNP". Which is rather odd because if either were in a position where they could win they'd need the help of the SNP - when is a entirely different question but it's inevitable that there will be another independence referendum soon. I suspect locally Labours reputation has been damaged after the Councillors tried to form a coalition with the Tories to oust the SNP.

It should be noted that practically everyone i know in person is/has voted SNP, my mother who goes to hospital a few times a week was also saying that almost all the nurses are saying to vote SNP.

I’ve done my postal vote, however as I was rostered a rest day today I took my vote pack to my local polling station in person. Mainly because our local council (Plymouth) can’t seem to be trusted with elections and postal votes.....

There are a couple of things with H&H. One that the current MP is relatively new and hasn’t particularly established much of a name for himself good or bad, and there’s been a heavy influx of people moving to escape London which has started to turn the area into something resembling parts of north London - the towns at least. The local council elections have also always performed reasonably well for the Lib Dems on and off. I don’t think the seat will change, but the Peter skillet majorities I don’t think will be repeated. Could be wrong though.

Stevenage will be one to watch as it tends to be a bell weather. I reckon that will be blue.

Well , filthy weather here in SAC - a Lib Dem canvasser just called to chase up my son (he has voted postally) - she is a GP who has taken the week off for the party. Impressed.

I think this sums things up. Corbyn just doesn’t offer anything to these areas, in fact on the contrary if anything he’s something of a threat. And if Corbyn isn’t enough of a turn-off then there’s Diane Abbott to blow the candle out fully!

Putting Syrians in Chequers or lowering the voting age to 16 simply doesn’t cut in to local issues - as I see it at least.

Why doesn't Corbyn offer anything to these constituencies. Personally I'm more centrist than Corbyn but I cannot begin to fathom why people from lower incomes will not vote for him when he's offering significant redistribution.

I don't doubt that some of the wealthy would move assets away and some of his policies are pretty fantastical but do people really believe the conservatives will make these areas better? I can only believe most people believe stupid scare stories about him. One such story is that he will turn Britain into Venezuela which is moronic because businesses aren't going to leave a functioning democracy with a wealthy domestic market, educated workforce and (relatively) good infrastructure. This equally applies to some of the more crazy forecasts for Brexit.

On the topic of leaflets etc in the post, I got three from Labour, one of which was personalised, the rest was fairly generic.

I also got one from the Brexit party, which I promptly ripped apart and threw in the recycling.

No one knocked on my door and I didn't get anything from the party I actually voted for.

Just one more vote for the left and Labour/Lib Dems are tied according to the poll, with the Cons a fair way behind!

On the 23rd of June 2016 I was first through my polling station at 07:00am. My vote still hasn't been counted. I'm not bothering today. What's the point? :(

You'll feel bad if your preferred party loses, or your least preferred party wins, by a small majority. The closest result in 2017 was a win by 2 votes.

I'm surprised. They usually count the votes overnight. Or at the very latest by the next day. (A couple of days for EU elections). 3 and a half years is quite a long time.

(Or do you mean that you voted for something that was actually pretty vague, and turned out to be much harder to implement than expected, and you're ignoring the 3+ years that the Government spent a lot of its time trying to achieve the impossible in order to keep leave voters happy?)

How do you know? Voting is anonymous.

Oh, you mean "the government hasn't implemented the vague and difficult thing I voted for because what I voted for was vague and difficult".

Using that "logic", my vote on that day wasn't counted either

Regardless of position remain or leave, I think some people forget the plain and simple fact that the 2016 referendum was advisory and not legally binding. From there it was up to the government how they wanted to proceed, they "could" have chosen to not go ahead with Brexit and it would've been perfectly acceptable.

Had Labour peopel round knocking up this evening. They must really think they can win MK south. They have never done this before. The young lad was a bit shocked when i told him I couldn't vote for Corbyn.

Same in Hitchin & Harpenden. In the last month I’ve rarely opened my front door without being greeted by a pile of Lib Dem propaganda - some of it rather sneaky, we’ve had some dressed up to look like some kind of local newspaper and only being conspicuously Lib Dem once a couple of pages inside, and another flyer just this week strongly intimating that there’s no Labour candidate and anyone who was planning to vote Labour should vote Lib Dem instead.

Wasted their money here - all this household will be voting Conservative, indeed that’s where I’ve just come back from.

I’d say Lib Dem’s probably have a realistic chance in St Albans, here is less likely as it’s a massive majority to overturn, although there has been an influx of ex London types over the last few years.

On the subject of dodgy comms, the last one (I hope) arrived today, a glossy large postcard type thing, addressed to me. All in Lib Dem orange. Explaining a few things about the poll and the balance of seats in parliament Then, oddly, it said in order to stop Corbyn, I needed to vote conservative.

In very, very small print at the bottom was the ‘promoted by (xxx) on behalf of Anne Main, CCHQ’. Naughty. Interestingly none of her communications (or those of her party) have mentioned the B word. Not once.

She is 3/1 to win the seat on betfair. Long odds in a two horse race (effectively) defending a 6000 majority.

Ha ha! I would have loved to have heard you give him the full 12-bore treatment (as you do here!)

A leaflet through a door is not campaigning! How do prospective candidates know what the local populace want if they can't be bothered to come knocking on doors? I so wanted to go and write 'None of the above' on the ballot paper, but the Returning Officer sent me a 'naughty note' last time I did that. It therefore begs the question why should I vote? I don't think any of the candidates in my area deserve my vote; however regardless of your own politics I feel the country needs a change of government, a different party that may or may not do the job well. Now if only there was some suitable parties worth voting for...

I have difficulties with it, but not as much of a difficulty as wasting my vote on a smaller party which is effectively a Tory vote. So I hope my vote beats yours :D

Really? So far as I know spoiling is not an offence...is it?
