I've asked the question before, and the answer is no. They could be converted to DC, it's true, but where would you store 37 4-car units that are surplus to requirements? The biggest problem for me is the power supply down on the Wessex route, which is pretty much at bursting point...again.
Plus from the looks of it First did not account for such power supply limitations in their bid unlike Stagecoach, and are having problems because of it.

Would it be viable to convert the /2s to DC so they could then work with 444/450 stock in SWRland? Number them 451s?
With 20/20 hindsight they could have been modified to DC and 2+2 seating for SWR and avoided the 442 debacle, but that still wouldn’t have needed them all. But when the 442 decision was made I guess no one knew they were to leave the West Midlands. I’m firmly of the belief that DC conversion or dual AC/DC is still possible though, somewhere.

So, just as we have been directed to this thread from the 350/1 thread, 350404/5 and 10 are currently in use with LNW, all are as received from TPE, ie 2+1 i first class.
350401 has been with LNW the longest and has been refurbished with 2+2 seating however it is suffering from a number of faults and has not been used in passenger service with LNW yet.

350404 and 405 were paired up yesterday working the 1847 Milton Keynes to Euston stopper.

Saw 350406 (?) depart Preston at 1648 for Manchester Airport.

It was in LNR livery. I take it then its still on lease to TPE? Anybody know different please?

It was in Preston on Thursday when we left for Glasgow.

The LNR livery is rubbish, like the TOC. Reminds me of a packet of Trebor mints.

It appears that, like operating an acceptable service, cleaning the flies off the gangway door is too much effort.

Enjoyed a trip in 2+1 first class on a LNWR 350/4 today. Definitely worth the extra £8 for a 2.5 hour journey. Had to run down the platform though to avoid the 350/2 it was attached to.

The luggage racks were also a nice change.

Personally I like the outside livery although it clashes with some of the unconverted TPE colours inside.

Hopefully we will soon get pictures of what they look like plus the finished refurbished 350/4

Not aware of 406 being rebranded but 403 certainly has and is out and about now in WMT/LNWR.....

406 is in its new colours for LNWR but no writing has been applied. I was on it from Carlisle back to Preston earlier today.

Thinking about it I do recall it was in the shed last week but I've been off a few days!

I've just enjoyed some 350/2 use for the first time and found them to be quite decent. A good mix of table and airline seats, and they zipped along quite nicely when required. Also a pleasing (non garish) interior decor.

I'm surprised they're leaving as (with perhaps a couple of minor improvements) they seem well suited to their routes.

Sorry but this cannot have been a 350/2, may be a 350/3 which has the nearly same layout as a 350/1.

The 350/2 have no tables and are mainly 3+2 layout in bays without airline style seats

They definitely were the 350/2's.

3+2 seating and mostly in bays. Sorry - I meant to say 'bays' rather than tables in my previous post. Some small tables in the seating bays is one of the improvements I think could be made to them.

I agree, its a shame they are leaving but thats an issue with privatisation

Now its new year, anyone got updates on when the next 350/4 move is happening?

To the best of my knowledge apparently 403 will be next to transfer over?
