There was something in August/September this year as I've got a Newcastle and Durham 1st Class trips marked off. I only ever do these routes during a sale/reduction
You might have received an email specific discount. No general sale as far as I remember.

They sent an email offering 30% off to people who had opted in to their marketing emails.
It was only available to people who received the email.

Yes, there was an "invitation only" 30 per cent off promo about six months ago.

VTEC used to do a seat sale in January and February, hopefully LNER will follow suit!

Until the end of January Stena Line is offering 10 per cent off all Dutchflyer / Rail & Sail tickets on the Harwich-Hook route. Offer code is RAILSAIL10 - also gives 10 per cent off cabin prices too

If the rumoured split of Northern goes ahead presumably it's bye bye to the Northern day and weekend voucher offer unless Northern can fit in a last offer before 31st March......

There's one dates on there website: https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/jpimedia will be useable for travel until 22nd March. Looks like the dates they are out in papers haven't been put on yet but presumably before 20th January.

Does anyone know if there's going to be a TPE January sale this year? They've started second week of January the last two years.

I've been looking around the Scotrail Club 50 website to see the area of coverage. I can't seem to find a map. Would Carlisle be a valid start point? I can get to Carlisle for a tenner on Northern's newspaper offer. I'd then like to buy a return to Thurso from there. Can anybody advise please?

Carlisle's not in Scotland, so I think you are out of luck.

Thanks for the link.

Of course I know Carlisle's not in Scotland but I'm reminded of my time as a teenager in the 1970s where we'd get a 7 day Freedom of Scotland Rover. It would include Carlisle as a start point. A trip up the WCML hauled by a Class 85 from Preston and we were on our way for 7 stinky days cruising Scotland behind Classes 26, 27, 37, 47/7s with the occasional shower for 50p at Inverness station. I miss the steam heat MKI stock. Wonderful days.

*Edit* Just checked. £5.50 for a single from Carlisle to Annan. Should be good to go.

Remember you have to be a member of Scotrail’s club 50 scheme at £15 per annum to participate in this offer.
It’s also valid on TransPenine express services from Lockerbie to and from Edinburgh and Glasgow if you can find one that’s running!!!

Yes, my daughter has kindly offered to pay for my membership. It's just getting to Scotland to take up the offer I'm struggling with. £10 up around the Cumbrian Coast from Preston with Northern's offer to Carlisle and another £5.50 to Annan and I'm away! :)

According to the ScotRail site, "Just log into your My ScotRail account and click the 'Buy £17 Flat Fare' link on your dashboard to book."

Well I've just created a ScotRail account and this £17 flat fare link is nowhere to be seen. Even after logging in I only get a "buy tickets" link which just gives 20 per cent off standard fares. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

I believe you have to pay the £15 for an annual account. You should get a card with your details etc to use when you book offers.

Really? You have to pay £15 just to check availability of the flaf fare tickets and may find you've wasted £15 if there's none available? What a curious set up!

There is unlimited availability.

Yet according to the offer T& C's,

"
  • This offer is non refundable and you can't make changes to your travel plans
  • You can only break your journey to change trains"
Surely these are conditions of advance purchase train-specific tickets rather than off peak open returns?

I’ve never had a problem, once I had a ticket to Oban, spent a few days in Crianlarich on the way back hillwalking then continued onto Glasgow/Aberdeen. Return ticket is valid a month.
