Do people think this issue with the PIS could be the same issue that was/is impacting the ASDO system. Someone either upthread or on the 331 thread said that the ASDO system was based on GPS. Therefore how likely is it that a common fault is causing these two issues to occur.

So unless 022 arrived before 021 that's just 3 more 2-car sets to go? Excellent progress; let's just see them in revenue service soon
How about the 3-cars? Superkev reckons all 30 of the first order are here now, but when will the add-ons arrive?
Not sure about excellent progress. Aren't they over a year late?

No, they're separate systems and Asdo doesn't use GPS as its primary locator.

Here's the post in the 331 thread, @86247 lists 2 x 3-car 195s awaiting delivery.
331026 to 331031 awaiting delivery
195020 023 025 132 133 also waiting to be delivered.

I think you might be confusing the original entry into service date of Dec 2018 with the overall timescales to build, test and deliver 58 units. The Dec 18 date will have been set for when ARN had enough units accepted to roll out onto a limited number of routes (depends on the routes / diagrams, could be anything from 3 units required to 15+). The remaining units would continue to be accepted at a set rate until all 58 were accepted, e.g. 1 unit a week, dependent on the factory output rate, test resources for routine tests / fault free running, and owner / operator resources to do final inspections / due diligence before acceptance. There's no way CAF would have been able to manufacture / deliver all 58 units by December 2018 considering construction of the bodyshells started in July 2017; delivery of 195s would have continued well into 2019 on the original timescales.

Note: I'm not saying that the last 195s aren't late (I don't actually know), just that they're not over a year late.

I have been in a hire car today who's GPS was accurate enough to know when I was at the correct exit of a mini-roundabout.

The railway should be bloody ashamed of itself that it can't get a reliable PIS.

I never ever remember seeing / hearing a faulty unit on any Swiss or German train. They even give you a graphic (arrow) of which doors to use.

Good question. Did you take your router with you, or did you get a separate one?

The existing router came with us. Our previous home was purchased by a company who will be using it as accommodation for European staff on six and twelve month secondments to Britain. Two of the six bedrooms are to be converted into working offices and they are having telecommunications installed to suit their company needs.

Strange, then :) Maybe something else.

The reason is quite obvious - they keep buying cheap rubbish and then failing to maintain it properly. Just like bus PIS - MK Council funded fitting it a year or two ago, now it barely works on any of the buses, it just shows a standard screen. "If the wheels turn, that'll do". No, it won't.

How would the system know what side the Platform was on, when arriving into a terminus with multiple platforms? Is it just based on the booked platform?

Also, I was on two 195s today that both said at Man Vic, Hebden Bridge and Halifax that the train was too long for the Platform. As one was 2 car and one was 3 car, it obviously wasn’t so it just sounded daft.

Finally, what’s the supposed final home for the 2 car 195s because using them singularly replacing 155/158s like for like, provides no capacity increase whatsoever. Shapps needs to announce additional centre cars to help offset the negative news in his announcement in a few weeks.

195112 is in service now. Still haven't seen '108, '113 or '126-133 of the 3-cars in service yet if anyone can update please?

It doesn't, it waits for the guard to override ASDO after verifying which side the platform is using the mk1 eyeball through the window, then the screens show which side has been released once the guard releases the doors. It is possible for the driver to input the information into Asdo on approach to multi-platform stations when the driver becomes aware of the signalled route ahead but this is strictly forbidden due to the risk of distraction and error at a time when other tasks should be the driver's primary concern.

Google often throws up weird locations. Right now my phone thinks I'm in Yeadon and not sitting in my home in Balidon several miles away. The router isn't the issue, its been sitting in the same spot for nearly two years. And I haven't been through Yeadon since my wife and I flew from LBA back in May.

Seems that we’re getting there, albeit not as quickly as planned !
Re 195112, is it based on the east or west side ? I had got the impression that most of the remaining 195s were for the east to complete conversion of Leeds-Nottingham, Leeds-Lincoln and York-Blackpool, but then most (all ?) 142s seem to be working routes round Manchester. Is the immediate plan to release 158s etc. from the east and then move them west to replace the 142s ?

I think all the 195s will be based at Newton Heath but will rotate over to the east side where day to day servicing only will be done.
Prob out of date but i have 21 units not yet in service:-
195 005, 006/ 195 126, 128 Hudds/ Sheffield training,
195 014, 016-020, 022, 108, 127, 130 in store.
195 021, 023-025, 131-133 awaited.
Incidentally hows the glacial like progress on the new 195 shed at Newton Heath going.

It's a bit slow but at least there is more depot/siding capacity here, also at Blackburn and Wigan (Spring's Branch) recently, but is anything happening depot-wise on the east side? By all accounts access to/from Neville Hill depot is difficult, with two other operators using it.

Re east side accommodation more siding space has been created at Holbeck which has better access to the station.
At one time even the wash road was being used for parking resulting in no washing. Probably all ok now all the trucks (pacers) have gone.
Sad that unlike other operators Northerns new trains didn't come with a new state of the art depot rather than decrepit former steam sheds.

A question, In how many places per train are conductors able to do the doors on the 195/331s?

Good question I've only had the pleasure of a single trip on a 331 and the guard seemed to spend the entire journey hanging around the doors nearest the bog, opening and closing the door control wardrobe.

The locking arrangements seemed pretty flimsy on the wardrobe door and the key lock to control the doors very stiff. The phone looked flimsy too and kept popping off the hook.

I imagine the guard was pretty new to the units and was phoning a friend for help with the PIS.

What they don't appear to be able to do is to operate them from a cab, only from the saloon.

This evening on the 195 I used they were operated from the door nearest the cab, with "hide in the cab and read tabloid of choice" being resumed in between stations.

Two door control panels per saloon, at diagonally opposite doors. The doors can't be operated from the cab by the guard.

Not necessarily for the fleet staff if they have retained benefits that come with working for a train operating company rather than a train manufacturer.

A new building expressly for the use of 195s is now being built, admittedly belatedly, at Newton Heath. I doubt you'd find anything there, or at most other depots, dating back to the days of steam. Allerton never even accommodated steam.
I can't speak for the likes of Neville Hill and Holbeck.

It does seem to be the world’s longest building project. Anyone have any idea why?

And presumably, since it's Northern, the guards aren't permitted to work the doors from too near the front, meaning that on the 2 car sets they're effectively tied to a bungee cord to the only door panel they can use?

I've noticed the external cab doors don't have t key locks - are the guards even able to access the cab?

They can't get in the external cab doors no. Drivers aren't able to either until they get 'issued' a butchered T-key which looks like a crackpipe and has the end from a sawn-off drivers key welded on to one of its ends, the welding in question done by a traincrew manager and his mate on weekends.
