Does anyone know what the situation is with delays above 120 minutes.

GTR state.
120+ minutes you’re entitled to 100% of the cost of a return journey (a full days travel)

I am sure that LNERs is similar.

my experience if my return ticket is something like an “off peak return” then this is paid. However if the return is 2x APs then they view this isn’t a return even if both legs are on the same day. I have had a lot of 120+ minute delays but never had a full refund of return journey when using APs.

The view of the rail industry is that a return journey consisting of 2 x singles does not count as a return for Delay Repay purposes. Whether this is compliant with consumer law or not is unclear.

So, I’m right in thinking that the claim I’m about to submit to Avanti for a 159 minute delay for a journey between Manchester and Edinburgh on Saturday will just be a full refund of that Advance Single ticket and I wouldn’t be entitled to anything for my return with TPE this evening, also on an Advance Single?

The TPE wasn’t great, 20 late at Manchester and a set swap at Carlisle, but it was a joy compared to the Avanti on Saturday which was an unmitigated “disaster”.

Yes; had you bought a return ticket (e.g. an Off Peak Return) you would have effectively got a free journey on both legs.

Leeds/Newcastle/Edinburgh to London Terminals passengers making a return journey would need to buy their tickets beyond their origin or destination (e.g. to Leeds/Newcastle/Edinburgh to Kentish Town) to avoid being similarly disadvantaged.

After intervention from Transport Focus, I had it accepted a few years ago that an SVH ticket, that Virgin used to badge as "Off-Peak Single (Online") was half of a return ticket for Delay Repay purposes, since it was impossible to buy it as a single, and the labelling as "single" was disingenuous.

Indeed, before the "simplification" it was called a "Saver Half Return", wasn't it?
