Round two has started, Constitution Street is shut for tramworks.

I wonder how badly they're going to mess it up this time around. :|
The knock on effect at the Waterloo Place/Leith St/Princes St/the Bridges junction from the diversions was horrendous on Wednesday. Pretty much everything was at least 20 minutes late - as always the drivers seemed to have angelic patience with it though. I take my hat off to them for that.
From what I’ve seen on the tracker it has pretty much been the same all week.

Council are making Waterloo Place -> Princes Street a bus gate from Monday which should help. This is because of St James Centre works rather than the tram though.

The people who messed it up last time have all moved on, indeed some of the team that replaced them and delivered the first phase are still involved.
Secondly, it’s a different form of contract in place this time around. Not a fully bespoke, one project only lawyerfest that the first phase was administered (or not) with.

Tram works on Constitution Street and enabling works on Leith Walk are well underway. Shouldn't be too much disruption until Spring when Leith Walk closes for 18 months!

The council has published a draft City Mobility Plan which includes options to extend the tram to Granton and to the south east and west of the city over the next 10 years. A new cross-city axis from Nicholson Square to Haymarket via Potterrow, Lauriston Place, Bread Street and Morrison Street; and a link from North Bridge to Picardy Place are also possibilities:

https://democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s12642/City%20Mobility%20Plan.pdf

The maps of potential routes are found on the following pages:-
Granton - page 58
South East - page 67
West - Newbridge- page 74; West of Hermiston - page 80
Cross Centre - page 88

How did we ever manage before consultants offered to take large amounts of money to provide hundreds of pages of pretty pictures, charts and tables, catchphrases and pseudo techno waffle?

I doubt it will be as much of a farce this time round as the original project. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the work to re-direct all of the underground utilities on the route carried out back when the original project was being constructed? If so then it's probably going to require a lot less work than back then.

I'm always happy to see extensions to tram systems.

It still baffles me that there isn't a proper interchange to Waverley station though.

The height difference makes it difficult. But I think they could have got a stop a bit nearer if they'd put their minds to it.

Edinburgh Council to 'explore potential' of linking tram to Fife and Lothians in future.

I think its a bit clickbaity but for those of you who are interested,

https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman....and-lothians-future-regional-strategy-1363924

Edinburgh’s controversial tram network could be extended across the Firth of Forth to Fife in the future as the Capital’s transport chief insisted it’s “essential” to draw up a regional strategy.

Last week, Edinburgh City Council revealed its draft city mobility plan – a 10-year strategy setting out how people will move around the Capital in the context of an expected population rise and a commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Fife’s a step too far. I’m up for any extensions in Edinburgh though.

Isn't "Fife" just meant to mean a big P&R at the north end of the bridge?
Indeed isn't the plan to send the tram over to the P&R via the old Forth Road Bridge. They've certainly put out many Artists Impressions over the years of this.

I'm pleased to see Edinburgh look to extend it's tram network at last - Hopefully it'll be quicker than Birmingham's 1 line approach (also thankfully now being developed). I wonder if the Granton extension would be a new single ended route off of the triangle near Depot Haymarket or the continuation of the original Loop plan?

That would be an amazing thing to see if true, haha. Would certainly make getting to either end of the bridge (for those crazy people who like walking across) a lot quicker!

Funny if the road bridge got electrified before the rail bridge!

Oi, we're not crazy! We just love walking and keeping healthy! :-P

I didn't know any of the Forth bridges were walkable, makes a mental note to look into that for when I hopefully pop up in March...

Yes, the "old" bridge is open to pedestrians, and it's really quite a surreal experience because there's basically no traffic anymore. The occasional bus going past sounds very train-like as it goes over the joints in the bridge sections.

It’s a long way down! Great view though (walkway is on the rail bridge side)
I was going to walk all the way across but it was getting late so I only made it half way over.

There's a walkway on both sides although I have a recollection that sometimes only one side is open.

I'm also sure I heard that NR were looking in the possibility of walking tours of the Forth [Rail] Bridge too.

No need for rail. I think most people on this forum know there is the one and only Forth Bridge. :E

Depends if you're a bus enthusiast, or indeed as it turns out more than one of us might be, a walking enthusiast! We can be fussy over such detail

Given your avatar is of a 170 that suggests you're relatively local too, so I'm glad it's not just me. Heck, I might be going up to Edinburgh in March, so I may have to do that walk while I'm up there.

And if NR do organise a walk over the rail bridge, I want in!

They close a side depending on maintance work, there is a subway across. There is an easy parking lot on the south side just at the start.

NR were doing a consultation with local residents about a forth bridge walk and centre a while back, I got a leaflet not sure of the outcome.

Put a lift and escalator down to the scotland street tunnel and a translator into Waverley...

What I meant was, officially its not called the Forth Rail Bridge as it was opened as the Forth Bridge and was the only bridge in that part of the Forth from 1890 to the the 1960s.
