Looks good, suppose there’s no point in applying if you live more than an hour away even if you are willing to relocate?

Has this just gone up today. Says closing date tomorrow?
May not even be up that long if recent campaigns are anything to go by so if people are thinking of applying, I’d do it sooner rather than later.

Good Evening All - I’m a long time lurker and this is my first post. I managed to get an application in for this one, it’s my first ever application for a trainee driver post as due to family issues have not been in a position to apply before. Fully expecting this to turn out to be a practice run in effect as evidently there is only a few hours to apply!

However, after submitting I needed to do an SWR online assessment. Got an email straight away saying I passed, but only those who passed with the highest scores will be progressed. Does this mean I’m out now? Or could I still be notified I’m through to next stage? Wasn’t really clear from the automated email.

Many thanks

No, just means people in the high scoring bracket will be progressed to the next stage.

I work for SWR. If rumours are true then lots of driver positions to be advertised very soon.

My advice would be not to wait but to apply for other positions in the mean time and then apply as an internal candidate after 6 months of probation is over.

Do you know if it's ok to apply for more than one position?

You can only apply for one location for a position at a time.

I can confirm the trainee driver position for Bournemouth is out for internal at the moment.

Not sure if it will go external soon or not but I do know a lot of drivers will be needed within a year.

I wont apply yet as I live in London so will be looking for something close to home. At the moment I cant relocate as I'm stuck with a fixed 5 year mortgage deal lol

You can apply for multiple different positions but only one location for a certain position.

Eg if you apply for a driver position at Bournemouth then you cannot apply for a driver position at Waterloo with the same company. Only one location at a time.

Thanks, shame they didn't advertise Bournemouth first lol

Evening all,

I was lucky enough to submit an application in time for this position. To my surprise, I’ve been invited to attend an assessment day on the 25th of January. I’m a little unsure whether to accept this date or not as I don’t know if there’ll be enough time to prepare sufficiently for all the assessments? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That was quick. When did you get the email. I had the one passing the online test but nothing else. I emailed recruitment to inform that I already have assessment day pass with another TOC from July 2019

Hi Quin79,

I received the email this evening. I also applied for the guard position at Waterloo and have an assessment day for that position on the 28th of this month. I’m just concerned that 8 days will not be enough time to prepare for the assessment day?

Ah well maybe I have been sifted. They did say they would be doing location checks for the 45 min travel time. I may/am probably just outside of that. Good luck. ...go for it

I received the email quite late in the evening, so you may hear something tomorrow.
We shall see. Honestly I wouldn't stress the assessment day too much. Use on here as a good tool/guide. Practice the group bourdon dots test and the rest you'll be fine

Hope they advertise for Reading/Oxford soon, I applied 6 months ago and failed online assessment.. 6 month period runs out on 24th jan so I can’t apply for driver until then..

Is it worth going for another role and then apply internal? Currently I am a bus driver and earn 30k p.a so I’m comfy but I train driver is what I want to be ultimately.

Well done! I’m my opinion you’d be silly not to accept the assessment date. That’s plenty of time to prepare. Not wanting to sound like a broken record here, but these assessments aren’t meant to be revised for as such. That’s not to say you shouldn’t prepare, but you merely need to have an appreciation for them and what to expect. Hope that makes sense. Good luck!

Thanks Stigy, currently just going through the information booklet they provided and practising some Bourdon tests. I seem to be getting the hang of it, which is good.

Hi, just a quick question, I applied for a signalled job 6hrs before the dead line, then got the news of these online assessments and had very little time to get my head around them, hence I failed them but there is another signallers job just come up today but apparently it says if you have already done the online assessments within 6 months your score will be used, so my question is do I have to wait the 6 months or just reapply and see what happens

Many thank for any advise

As mentioned above, don’t stress too much about preparation for the assessments, with aptitude, you either have it or you don’t simple as that. The best preparation you can do is have a good night sleep the night before and be fed and watered when you turn up.

Best of luck with your application. If successful there is plenty of info on DMI’s particularly with SWR on this forum, if you can’t find what you need, get in touch.

Hey Lewis, thanks for the advice and I’ll keep that in mind, should I be lucky enough to reach that far.
