The XC services are shown on RTT as ‘service stop unadvertised’ so it looks like maybe GWR will start running there this weekend and XC on 2nd February.
Someone I know working on this scheme told me today that the station will not open on 26 January but may (he emphasised 'may') on 2 February. There is still something (unspecified) not agreed with/signed off by ORR, unfortunately.

That's a pity! I wonder when all services will be taken off journey planners, then.

Latest news. Both the Trainline and Great Western Railway are now selling tickets to/from Worcestershire Parkway as from tomorrow, 26th January. Cross Country are not selling them as direct from Birmingham New Street to Worcestershire Parkway, but you can still buy them if you go via Worcester Shrub Hill.

They are indeed, it appears that direct XC services will only start next Sunday (2nd Feb) so I’ll have to have a look when I’m there tomorrow if there’s an obvious reason why.

Backed up by this week's notice - now 2 February (unless it changes again!)

Looks like the 10:13 from Shrub Hill tomorrow will be the first train stopping at Parkway. I'll get that one, have half an hour at Parkway to look around, and then get the 10:50 back to Shrub Hill.

I'm interested to see what Worcestershire Parkway is going to be like in person. I've seen the videos, heard about the delays, and seen the posts on this thread. I might go to WOP tomorrow to see it, and if I can do that I'll report back as well on here. Let's hope it all goes well tomorrow!

Thanks,

-Peter

I’ll be following you an hour later!

Just rang National Rail Enquiries and have been assured that services are running to Parkway tomorrow, so I'm going to go for it.

Best of luck, but I think the services listed for tomorrow are a mistake. There are no services listed for Monday for a start. Still nothing to lose as you're only in Worcester!

The station is not opening tomorrow - that's all there is to it.

This is the page on the Worcestershire County Council website where any official announcement will be posted. The last update was on December 13 last year.

That's a shame - I was hoping to go there tomorrow. Maybe the displaying of services calling there tomorrow on RTT wasn't supposed to have happened after all?

Nothing is supposed to be showing on any online systems, whether that's tickets or train times - but random bits seem to have eluded the cull.

OK - thanks very much. I wonder why the GWR services have appeared for today on RTT then, at the same time that tickets appeared for sale on GWR and Trainline? Maybe tomorrow was a potential opening date programmed in somewhere? I don't know much on the topic, mind, so that could be 100% nonsense.

Thanks,

-Peter

I just went to Worcester Shrub Hill ticket office. I asked the guy there if the 10:13 tomorrow (1P41) is stopping at Parkway. He tapped it into his system and said to me "Yes, it looks like it". I asked if that meant that if I came back to Shrub Hill tomorrow morning I would be able to travel to Parkway. He said "From what I can see here, you will be able to travel there tomorrow". So a lady in the National Rail Enquiries call centre has told me trains are running tomorrow, the National Rail Enquiries website is telling me trains are running tomorrow, and the chap in the ticket office is telling me trains are running tomorrow.

I used to live in Worcester and looked at RTT out of interest (although 120 miles away now) and saw that GW services were shown as calling at WOP, but not XC. We will soon find out, I suppose but probably best not to rely on it.

I would hope that staff so close to the station in question would work from a proper briefing rather than "computer he say yes". I would enjoy the station if it opens but be prepared for it not opening yet.

I'd say that's all pretty indicative of the station being open tomorrow! Let's hope it is, but as @pdeaves says, we need to be prepared for it not to open.

For crying out loud, how much more proof do you need than the complete absence of a statement about the opening date from the organisation that has sponsored the whole project?

I repeat, Worcestershire Parkway is not opening tomorrow.

This is what Dan Panes, the head of communications at GWR, posted less than an hour ago on the Great Western Passengers' Forum site. =

Hi all - I can confirm that this is an error and Worcestershire Parkway is not scheduled to open tomorrow. Worcestershire CC have not yet released an opening date.
The stops there are taken into account in the WTT but should not appear in customer info/sales channels. It looks like there are a couple of dates where the stops appear publicly.
We are looking at why this has happened but in the meantime we are flagging on the main page of our website. Any tickets purchased will be fully refunded.

Thanks to everyone who raised it on here.

It isn't at all, even though @jimm has concluded the matter, the person at the station would have been looking at the same data as what is fed into RTT. If a train has got uploaded erroneously with the stop showing then that is pretty much what it is.

I disagree. All it says is that various people can look up what the data says. None of it is indicative of the reliability of the data.

I asked GWR about the opening on Twitter, and they linked me to this: https://www.gwr.com/travel-updates/live-network-updates/disruption-information

Worcestershire Parkway Not Yet Operational
Due to a technical fault, it may be possible to purchase tickets to/from Worcestershire Parkway Station, which is currently not operational. We are working to resolve the issue and hope to rectify it soon.

If you wish to travel to/from Worcester please purchase tickets to travel to/from Worcester Shrub Hill or Worcester Foregate Street Stations as normal.

You can use our journey planner tool to amend your travel plans.

Don't know if it is of any use to anyone.

OK - thanks both. I thought it might have been an issue with the services being entered incorrectly. I assumed that the staff member had different information - I don't know enough on the topic so I can't do much else. :)

GWR had asked for all entries on industry systems referring to trains running on/tickets being sold from January 26 to be removed when they first appeared earlier this month - the process was clearly not carried out thoroughly enough. Nor should anything have gone online referring to December 16 last year either.

When an opening date for the station is announced, it will be posted on the Worcestershire county council web page I gave the link for above - and given to the local media.

Until there is an announcement from the council, anything that appears on journey planners, realtimetrains or anywhere else should be treated with extreme caution.
