Yes they have, after Eastleigh they have headed to Aycliffe, spent about a week there, then moved to Heaton where they did acceptance/milage before moving to Hull Trains.

Reasons unknown, but 802301, 302 and 303 have all been to Merchant Park.
802304 is currently at Eastleigh.
When they have arrived at Aycliffe the doors have been grey, when they leave they are the pink colour, what else they do at Aycliffe, I couldn't tell you.

Thanks for that info. What specifically is done to the new 800/801/802/803s at Eastleigh?

The lner and TPE get post production modifications done to them (changes implemented after build process started).
In particular lner fleet is getting a modification done which helps reduce the impact of signal interference caused by the train.

TPE have some minor work done and get vinyl wrapped as well.

Hull Trains arrive from Eastleigh, unsure what if any work gets done, then they head north.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but it seems as if the LNER website no longer notes what services are booked to be an Azuma what is booked to be a 225 set. Now it just says 'Information about this train' - presumably this is due to the number of set swaps taking place daily?

It does for me. This was discussed further up the thread, as I myself found that was the case, but I’ve just checked again and Azuma services are showing.

It doesn't show until the seat selector stage for services affected by weekend engineering works. I presume you're looking at a weekend date?

Oddly it's like this for a few days now for me.

Nope, have checked weekday's and not showing initially for me. For me, you can tell by the seat map when choosing your seats on what type of train it is - though there is no note to say 'Azuma' or 'Electric train' from what I saw.

This system is fine except the orange colour is far too close to the red colour, when I was looking at them at first I assumed that they were all supposed to be red, but that some just happened to be slightly more red than others. To be clearer I think they should have used yellow instead of orange.
Which most passengers could distinguish from red, but perhaps confuse with green.

Maybe it's an urban myth but I've heard the rail industry favours orange reflective suits for staff working on the track instead of the more widely available yellow colour because of the chance that a yellow reflection could be confused with a green signal. Meanwhile if you misinterpreted an orange overall for a red light the consequences may be less serious. With seat reservations perhaps the opposite is true.

The standard was supposed to be orange for rail workers and yellow for road. While rail has stuck to orange, it hasn't been the case elsewhere.

The European Standard (BS EN ISO 20471) includes a number of colours, but Rail Industry Standard requires one specific shade of orange.
In order to confine this to a specific orange colour, and to prevent the selection of colour at the red end of the spectrum, the precise chromaticity co-ordinates for the colour are specified in Appendix A.
I guess the advantage of this is that drivers will become attuned to that specific shade of orange and can react on instinct.

Wildly off topic, but I've worked for a company whose preference was yellow because orange clashed with the company logo and they didn't want to have to make a black version of the logo.

Seems like an odd basis for choosing light colours, though. I wonder if the colours are absorbed in different ways by the glass so that it's easier to identify them - inside or outside as the case may be.

Is it not that yellow is a colour used in railway signalling, so orange is used for PPE to avoid confusion?

Am I alone in thinking that the Azuma speed measuring errs a bit on the cautious? With my anorak on and my GPS tracker, I tend to watch the speed of the train when travelling. Yes, I know a simple phone GPS speed app is not very accurate, but I think it is fairly consistent. And when travelling on the ECML in HSTs I am sure it was generally flicking between 123 mph and 127 mph. On the Azumas, I haven't seen it go above 123 mph.

Are the Azuma speedos set to read a bit high for safety, such that the trains are actually travelling a bit below linespeed? If so that could be adding a couple of minutes to some journeys.

I believe they're limited to 200km/h (124mph) in normal use rather than 125.

Just for interest I noticed 5X98 left Eastleigh TRSMD via the south curve onto the Botley line, then through Eastleigh P3. I wonder if that was done to get the pair set up for a particular leading unit or leading cab?
More likely a workaround to avoid the damaged pointwork that's caused havoc within Eastleigh for the past couple of weeks. That section of points has now been plain-lined temporarily.
All the AT300 moves out of Eastleigh TMD were canned because of it, until today.
