Sky Sports' YouTube channel described the result as an "upset". There are only four points between the two sides!

The commentary on BT was pointing out that Chelsea are closer to the bottom than the top points-wise. They’re in 4th place!

Weird isn't it?

There's a myth that the standard this year is poor. It isn't; actually there isn't a single terrible side in the league and they pretty much all take points off one another.

I do wonder how much longer it will be before those companies sponsoring Manchester United will make strong feelings of disquiet known to the American club owners, as the club's lack of form and consistency of results do have an effect on the current lucrative sponsorship deals, which most certainly do not offer the globalised coverage of success for both sponsors and club.

2nd to 20th is competitive. Even Liverpool matches are competitive they just seem to be able to pull a win from anything

Surely it's competitive because the standard has been poor this season? The two Manchester clubs and the two North London clubs have under performed by their standards and Chelsea are in a period of transition.

I can see delaying the replay making quite a mess of the fixtures given that’s when the fourth round are to be played. Watford might not have fixture congestion issues, but Man Utd would. They’re still in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League, so trying to schedule in potentially two matches before the start of March when the fifth round is due to be played could be rather tricky.

Why should Watford (in particular) and Tranmere bend over backwards to ease Manchester United's fixture congestion?

Wolves 1-2 Liverpool

Ridiculous, I thought Liverpool were finally going to drop points or even loose.

They have only got 10 more games to not lose until they break Arsenal's 49 game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

As an Arsenal fan I'm terrified they will, its the only thing we have left to still be cheerful about and this deeply abysmal season for Arsenal.

Although at least Arteta seems to be turning things around slowly. We actually have a style of play now. Just need to get onto the winning games part.

I think Arteta will be good for Arsenal and he’ll get them playing better over the next few months.
As far as Liverpool go I don’t think going unbeaten is much on the radar for most fans. Winning the league is all that matters at the moment and each week that goes by that’s getting steadily closer.

BetVictor Northern Premier League

Hyde United 3 ... Grantham Town 0

Hyde followed up their good Cheshire Senior Cup mid-week result by recording a comfortable win over a side near to the lower end of the league table, by scoring in the first 15 minutes of the first half, then following that with two second-half goals.

League positions this season in reality are really no guide to form, as some teams have at least six matches in hand of other teams, owing to match cancellations and participation in cup and trophy competitions.

Winchester City 1...Evesham United 1 (Carr 84; Sullivan 36)

If this had been the Premier League, both goals would have been shown on Match of the Day ad infinitum. Evesham came into this match having dropped to 10th in the league and out-of-sorts, but took the lead with a curling long-range effort into the top corner. It looked as though Winchester might lose at home for the first time since September, but with six minutes left Rob Carr scored a long-range effort of his own to ensure that the points were shared.

Just heard this, deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Once a Terrier, always a Terrier.

RIP Sinbad.

Hawick Royal Albert Utd 3 Ormiston 4

Second win in 3 weeks for Ormiston - first time I think we’ve done that in a good few years. Next Saturday is at home to unbeaten, and only drawn twice, all season Tynecastle. It’s going to be a much tougher game. I’ll be happy if we don’t get heavily beaten.

Liverpool's recent form is causing concern in Yorkshire. Bradford (Park Avenue) currently hold the record for the most consecutive home wins in the Football League at 25, set in D3N in the 1920s. Liverpool can beat this if they win all their remaining home games this season.

On the other side of the coin, Bradford had gone 56 consecutive D4 games without an away win when voted out of the Football League in 1970. Our last away win was against Bradford City in 1968.

Just a quickie (and there's probably a thread already but I can't find one) with Bury dropping out of the league, it raises the argument of the largest town/city (population) without a 1 - 4th tier side. Unfortunately Bury can't win that one either, locally Warrington does by a few thousand, and York also, and of course Salford is now well and truly a League side so they don't count!

Anyone?

I instantly thought of Torquay, Taunton and Basingstoke being fairly large (population wise) and not having teams in the top 4. There must be plenty of other ones too though?

Boston 3 York 1. Really good game in front of 2100 (400 York). Slowly getting a grip on the playoffs now. 7 points off top. Massive match against Gateshead now. Daring to believe!

Thanks, Torquay's barely half that of Bury/Warrington though. Haven't looked the other two up. Before the "move" Milton Keynes must have been in with a shout. Here's one that's possibly arguable - Gateshead 200000+. I reckon it's a town all right, and separated from Newcastle by the Tyne, covers a large area too.
