Reports by TfW of storm damage to Cambrian Coast at Afonwen and flooding on the Conwy Valley. Images posted on Twitter... https://mobile.twitter.com/tfwrail/status/1226505856231055364
I took a trip out to take a look at the Conwy valley.
It isn't ĺooking great and the new Dolgarrog is, well , erm..look
It’s reported that there are two 158s in Pwllheli. Wonder what they’ll do with those if the damage is bad enough to shut the line for some time?
Send for 'Train Truckers' obvs!
A shuttle from Pwllheli isn't going far if the line is closed at Afonwen.Or, assuming the damage is not between Pwllheli and whatever the next stop is, run a shuttle (with fuel etc trucked in) and a RRB in between the two halves.
You recall correctly.A shuttle from Pwllheli isn't going far if the line is closed at Afonwen.
They ran shuttles when Barmouth bridge was closed, if I recall correctly. However, they haven't run shuttles for recent closures. I suppose once you have got everyone onto the bus, it is quicker and easier to take them all the way, rather than have to turf them out again and back onto a train.
At least thie Vivatrains haven't made it there yet!As an amusing sideline, what is it about "Bletchleyite having plans to use the Conwy Valley soon" and "the Conwy Valley being closed"...I'm not having much luck with it of late!
I heard (can’t comment on the reliability) that a car had become stuck on the crossing west of Penrhyndeudraeth yesterday at high tide, with its electronic handbrake unable to be released as a result of water damage. However, with the line already closed there was no impact and I’m sure it wouldn’t have taken long to get it removed.
‘Transport for Wales is currently operating bus rail replacement services between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth and between Machynlleth and Pwllheli. Both lines remain closed until further notice.’A press release on Network Rail's website (published yesterday) includes this image of the Cambrian Coast line:

That track's going to need some serious reinforcement against any further coastal erosion (and there's another storm due this weekend...)
No! Just use it to pioneer big concrete piers and standardised bridging beams / deck sections for wider use elsewhere. After installing a few of these the problem will go away...There must be a point when it just becomes too costly to repair the line which seems to be at least once every year lately.

The train manager on my Avanti service this evening claimed that the bus replacement service was from Dovey Junction - which would be novel.
RTT is showing a train service at Pwllheli from Saturday onwards. Is that realistic?
