EC 240/241 "Wawel"

Hi,

I'll be travelling on the above train in June and would like to know its exact route through Berlin and onwards to the German/Polish border. I would be boarding at the Hauptbahnhof or Sudkreuz stations and will be travelling to Wroclaw/Breslau in Silesia.

From looking at the timetable i see the 'Wawel' departing Berlin at 0941 and arriving into Wroclaw at 1537 . The train goes to Krakow . The train goes via Cottbus and calls at ; Forst , Tuplice , Zary , Zagan , Legnica and Wroclaw . Dont know about what route the train takes within Berlin . Ive only taken a Krakow to Prague train . Is this part of a wider trip?

Quite a simple one for me actually. I'm flying into Berlin from Glasgow for two nights before heading to Wroclaw for two nights and then finally Krakow for two nights before flying back to Edinburgh.

I mark all my journeys onto a Thomas Cook European rail map so was just trying to confirm the route through Berlin. There have been lots of changes since I last went through there by rail ( and I was probably asleep as it was on the Jan Kiepura from Koeln to Warschau)

yeah sounds good . Im heading out to the balkans in a couple of weeks , gonna go on my first night train abroad . Scary stuff.

EC Wawel its called by polish rail enthusiastic a worst Euro City service in Poland.
Its very short train (sometimes its just two coaches), no bar or restaurant service up to polish border. From there to Krakov, or from Krakov to border its a bar coach (very, very old one).
That train is usualy delayed, sometimes, even few hours.
But all over its nice trip, part under the wire, then with diesel loco, then again under the wire with an electric loco.
Sometimes its hauled with czech loco class E163

On that picture train is aproaching to Wroclaw, you can see two German coaches (very cmfortable, my favourites ones) and last one its a bar coach (its terrible).

Polish (& Czech/Hungarian) trains are generally old and tatty

Not all of the Trains are tatty . Some stock is pretty modern . Ok there is some older Hungarian stock .What about the Ukrainian stock that comes to the EU ? that looks pretty old.

Ukrainian its wide guage (1520mm) so its totally different stock than polish, czech, slovakian or hungarian one.

Yes not all are tatty, InterCity services are ok, not the same what german one, but allright, but if you will travel by Regio service that gonna be up to 40 years old (bulid on swedisch licence from 1950's) EMU in not really good condition sometimes (i.e. below).
