That's enough to make me believe they're seriously considering deploying a rake on the Manchester - North Wales diagram, at least in the short term.

Far less issues with getting mk4s cleared for that bit than the Marches. That let’s them get a rake into traffic so staff can start to get used to them but also cascade the existing mk3 set to join the other set on the Marches allowing the DMU to be released and a pacer go for recycling.

The test run from Crewe to Manchester via Chester today appear to be a runner today

Saw it yesterday in Colwyn Bay it stopped at the station. The info screens in the saloon were programmed with the route. Looked good.

Could these be another two runs scheduled along the coast today and until Thursday, including an overnight in Holyhead, although the pathing shows units rather than diesel locomotive

I doubt it, as they're starting from Chester rather than Crewe, and using the bay platform (2) at Llandudno Jn. I'd be inclined to think that the 75mph DMU timings are representative, and that it's a 153 training run.

These runs between Crewe and Chester are timed for Loco-hauled stock, however:

They are also not MK4 training runs, that is LSL loco training runs

Are the Mk3s still on the Premier service? If they are when is likely the latest I could use that train and expect Mk3

They are still on it.
No one can really answer that question, but the latest ought to be the May timetable change. It'll all depend on when the Mark 4s are ready and when staff training and any route clearance work is complete.

MK IV Test run heading out to N Wales just gone over the Chester Racecourse viaduct. EWS 67. Too far away for the number. Arrives Holyhead 1734.

It's set 1. Don't know which loco for sure, but 67008 was on it the other day. But set 1 formation is:
82226
11323
10325
12454
12225

No it hasn't started yet although timed as such in anticipation. The 0534 ex Holyhead to Cardiff and 1716 return still operate with the 67 but the others are worked by DMUs with a start (hopefully) in May.

Thanks, that's what I assumed but wasn't quite sure

They will be 67's not 66's. I will be training run.

Training was supposed to be suspended during the current restrictions so have a feeling this is the set that has been at Holyhead for over a month being returned to its base at Crewe whenever there was a spare Holyhead driver (and one at Crewe to access the sidings). Quite what happens and when going forward is probably open ended now. Could certainly see a scenario where any return to the normal timetable would certainly require the mk3 stock to have another temporary stay of execution as mk4 training will be at least several months behind by then and be re-started almost from scratch.
