Can anyone tell what has happened to the 2326 Edinburgh - London service on the 27th June. (Sunday night) I have been trying to book it online but search engines can't find the train. Is it full already or do we have a fault with the booking system this evening? I have also tried booking Stirling - London on the same evening again the website gives me an error. Confused?

I suspect it is full
Also note the train is diverted and arrives into London later, but this later arrival is in the timetable

Ironically, there are also still berths on the Glasgow (which joins the Edinburgh)
You could therefore also travel on this from Glasgow or Motherwell

There are however still berths on the Aberdeen
This is showing as 23:36 Edinburgh - Inverkeithing, 00:12 Inverkeithing - London Euston (although that is just 14 minutes at Inverkeithing)

There are also still berths on the Inverness
This is showing as 22:36 Edinburgh - Falkirk Grahamston ,00:02 Falkirk Grahamston - London Euston

Thanks, looks like a trip to Glasgow then and double back. The highlands sleeper arrives too late for me. Sold out this far ahead. I wonder if people are taking the safe option over air?

I think they often sell out well ahead; the capacity of a sleeper train is quite small compared to a day train or an aircraft.

I normally only book the week before and this is the first time I have encountered a sell out this early. I admit that you don't have many spaces but for the seated to be all gone as well is rare. On weekdays I often book they day before. Edinburgh can be full. Glasgow rarely is.

Even if sold out it should show on journeyplanners, sounds like itsnot been uploaded to the systems correctly yet.

It does show on the journey planner
It looks like the online interface does not recognise that the Glasgow is also picking up and joining with the Edinburgh

I therefore suggest you phone ScotRail and check
The first Sunday on which I can find availability is 12 September (and from memory this when the diversion ends)

What is the total capacity of the Lowland sleeper? And is it equally spread between Edinburgh and Inverness? I could probably count carriages next time I'm in GLC late at night, but there's no way of telling second from first class carriages outside.

Glasgow and Edinburgh are the same. Normally seated lounge the 6 sleepers. The first 2 are first class. Inverness is also 8 car. Fort William and Aberdeen vary depending on the time of the year. Fort William can be 2 sleeper. Aberdeen 4 sleepers. Both have lounge and seats but the fort William seats detach at Edinburgh.

If you click on the ScotRail web site and Buy Train Tickets, it says "We are currently waiting on Network Rail to correct a number of errors on some Sleeper services. These services will be available as soon as possible. Please call 08457 55 00 33 if you are unable to find the Sleeper service you are looking for." I'm sure this specified Sunday night sleepers, until recently.

Also, FW sleeper is 2 x sleepers except Friday nights down and Sunday nights up, summer only, when it takes one of the 4 Aberdeen sleepers (coach E, standard class). On these nights they often don't sell the cheaper of the two tiers of fares in both classes. (Maybe I should get out more?)

I think a sleeping coach has 12 cabins, therefore holds between 12 and 24 passengers, depending on how many are sold for single or double occupancy. The seating coaches obviously carry more. So the Aberdeen portion handles 96 sleeper passengers max; fewer than most planes.

I think it's 13 cabins for the SLE, 12 cabins plus attendant's pantry for the SLEP - or has the disabled cabin conversion a while back changed this?

Just the other day I had the same problem with a Sunday sleeper in early June - not coming up on the booking engines. The ScotRail call centre took my request and phoned me back less than 24 hours later confirming my berth. I suspect berths WILL be available for the journey the OP wants - just give them a call.

Have done and got the tickets I wanted, I wonder if Scotrail are losing potential customers because of this however. Thanks everyone for the advice.

What is the total capacity of the Lowland sleeper?
Glasgow : 22 First Class and 88 Standard
Edinburgh : 22 First Class and 88 Standard

Aberdeen : 11 First Class and 66 Standard / 11 First Class and 44 Standard
Fort William : 11 First Class and 22 Standard / 11 First Class and 33 Standard
Inverness : 22 First Class and 88 Standard

The ratios of First Class can be varied and I have shown the typical allocation
On the Fort William that is the MAXIMUM number of First Class, very often it is only 5 First Class with 34 Standard or 45 Standard (ie the south coach has both)

And is it equally spread between Edinburgh and Inverness?
As above, you can see the Edinburgh and Inverness have similar allocations, but they are different trains
Again, the number of First Class can vary
When I travelled on the Inverness - Euston sleeper last year it had just six First Class the other 16 berths were booked for Standard solo
