Over the January period there was some work taking place across the GILR, with equipment being stored at Great Coates No.1 Sidings and Network Rail engineers present at the sidings also. There had been what i think was a Volker Track machine through and some Freightliner 66s on Ballast (66620, 66614 and 66505 that I managed to catch). Though at the sidings there was no visible work that has been done, and there now stands a line block in place flashing away some month after the last train has passed through. I am just wondering if anyone knows what is taking place here as this is a very neglected line, very rarely used for freight diversions from Immingham terminal and has to be signalled from a box upon request. It would be nice to know if they are looking at upgrading this line for future use as freight through Grimsby is very rare.

I think they were working on the mainline to Haborough. The light railway was just been used to get the trains into/out of the possession.

30_3.gif is this the marker? These are used to mark the entrance of the worksite. The exit boards have yellow flashing lights. The entry and exit to possessions have a stop board with a flashing red light. They can sometimes be placed miles in front of the actual work site. Earlier in January the possession boundary was alongside Pyewipe road signal box.

Similar to that yeah, they were like a pole coming up from the track with a flashing red light at the top.

One of the junctions and some plain line track was renewed recently at Ulceby North - I don't have the date to cofirm though. If this is the case, I suspect the line provided the only way engineering trains could get in and out to/from the north of Ulceby. As rick pike has alluded to, the lines under possession would extend a long way from a worksite - Probably would have included the Grimsby Dock Branch (where the photo above is) Pyewipe branch and Ulceby North Junction to Immingham Dock.

Ulceby junction was renewed last year during the summer. Colas 56 ,the 66 and 70s hauled engineering trains. The tank and biomass trains during weekends ran via the light railway. Tis was a good summer
