An instagram post in relation to todays Humberstone Road job by David Fletcher, Cappagh Director of Rail

"'Pop Up Rail Freight'. Today Cappagh company DCRail delivered the first train to a new rail freight facility in Leicester, the first goods to be delivered by rail to the East Midlands city for a number of decades. The simplicity of the operation is its strength. There are no expensive connections, sidings or concrete pads. Unloading is undertaken by just lifting the load over the boundary fence from wagons in the adjacent siding. With such a simple operation it took less than two months from the initial meeting to delivery of the first train. Easy access to the network allows more freight to be moved by train and the proactive support of the local Network Rail team was the key to the early and safe start of this operation. Hopefully plenty more similar operations can be established in the future. A great team effort"

If this sort of operation can be regularly duplicated by all the FOCs then things could be evened up a little between road and rail hauliers
Excellent news but the concept is not new, nor unique.

A few years ago Redland had their aggregates trains with built in conveyors and discharge conveyor to unload "over the fence" if needed. Are any still running?

More recently, sand for Ravenhead glass at St Helens has been unloaded by grab reaching over the lineside wall into the train.

Perhaps time to revive the Blatchford container unloading crane? This looked like an overgrown twin mast tracklayer that could travel with a container train, or start a new service from any site with two parallel sidings and road access.

Delivering spent ballast to Leicester is an interesting development considering the proximity of then various quarries in the area. I worked at Leicester TOPS in the early 90's and was always surprised that a town the size of Leicester actually generated no railfreight traffic of any sort. The last flow was bricks into Nedham St not sure much happened after that until this flow.

I may well be completely wrong but haven't those trains been banned on safety grounds, or am I confusing them with something else?

Some movements today to get the week off to a start, 60028 did two sets of wagon shunts between Willesden and Acton Lane before running light as 1719 0Z62 Willesden to Wembley HS and the possibility of a trip to West Ealing Plasser tomorrow

56091, confirmed elsewhere on the forum, ran as 1142 0Z56 Leicester LIP to Chaddesden on its first turn since mid December, no guarantees but it looks as though an outing to Long Marston and then on to Bristol BH WRD could be on the cards for tomorrow

60055 worked 1412 0Z55 Chaddesden to Willesden Euroterminal and is scheduled to return with 6Q75 tomorrow

50008 and 56103 remain at Leicester while 60046 is at Toton with a shy 60029

Can't find any photos as yet, WNXX are reporting that 60029 has come out of the Toton paintshop today in DCR grey and has been reunited with its Ben Nevis nameplates, I believe he was the tallest ever man to have played for the Scottish Curling team ....

A little confusing with both 60028 and 60055 at Wembley overnight, operating today have been 1105 0V88 Wembley HS to West Ealing Plasser Sidings, 1333 6Q74 West Ealing Plasser to WEFOC and 1524 6Q75 WEFOC to Chaddesden

56091 worked 0914 6Z29 Chaddesden to Long Marston with JNA wagons said to be either for store or modification and then 1535 0F56 Long Marston to Bristol Barton Hill WRD

Problems for 60028 this evening, it failed at Warrington on 1546 6Q76 wagons from Chaddesden to Carlisle NY and was replaced by DBC 'Chinese' 66136, almost at journeys end now and only 30 late

60055 just departed on 2300 6Z41 Angerstein to Scunthorpe Roxby Gullet

Some strange timings today with 60055 making it to Scunthorpe Roxby Gullet 131 early this morning with 6Z41, this evenings trip to Willesden with 1606 6Z42 then left Scunthorpe RG 51 early but passed Scunthorpe 74 late, it's currently in the Wembley area around 30 late

0012 6Z21 Kingmoor to Humberstone Road is scheduled for tonight, if it does run whether it will be with 60028 or not is unclear

60055 is at Willesden after arriving this morning with 6Z42

DBC 66136 worked 0012 6Z21 from Kingmoor to Humberstone Road and then 1509 Humberstone to Chaddesden, no sign of the errant 60028

56091 is currently scheduled for tomorrows 0814 Bristol Barton Hill WRD to Wembley LMD and 1238 return

60046 and the still unseen 60029 remain at Toton while 56103 and 50008 are at Leicester LIP

Confirmed elsewhere by a DCR employee that 60028 was taken out of service yesterday because of a flagged fault rather than due to failure

Just 56091 in action today hauling Chiltern DVT 82302 on 0814 5Z20 Bristol Barton Hill WRD to Wembley LMD and then returning as 1238 5Z21 with 82303

60028 problem reported as a fuel pressure issue down to faulty material supplied to DBC

Thanks, just seems like one picture around so far, a part view in the yard on WNXX

Here's 60055 with that train from Angerstein Wharf tonight. It was approaching very slowly, was wondering if it was in trouble but then seemed to pick up some speed as it got closer, maybe it had been stopped at the signal at the bottom of the hill. Enjoyed watching one of these machines working hard, anyway.

It does seem to have been a little bit late from Lewisham to Stevenage but ran well for the rest of the trip, 112 early into Scunthorpe RG by not having the big layover at Trent TC, a good run back to Chaddesden on 1606 6Z42 and then 0F54 to Toton, presumably any of 028, 046 or 055 will be out tomorrow on a Toton to Leeds Balm Road and on to Chaddesden before ending at Kingmoor

56091 worked 1018 0Z56 Carlisle to Kingmoor and 1100 0Z57 to Leicester LIP

60028 worked its first turn since the 19th, this mornings 0658 0Z60 Toton to Leeds Balm Road, collecting 1050 6X04 to Chaddesden and then 1546 6X20 to Kingmoor, sadly it only got as far as Clay Mills before failing, 3 hours delay while a driver and 60055 were found to replace 028 and continue to Kingmoor, it seems that 028 then returned itself to Toton, around 2 hours has been made up because of booked layovers

Seems to be a path in for Wembley/Willesden - Angerstein Wharf this afternoon. I'll be curious to see what's on that (if it runs)

I guess it's a straight choice between 028 and 046 as 055 is currently in Carlisle and one or both 56s are on its/their way from Leicester to Bristol, I see that 055 is scheduled to do a couple of round trips from Willesden tomorrow via Clapham Jct, diversion route learning perhaps?

Yes thanks, I can understand 60028 not being used but 046 has been at Toton for 3 weeks now since it returned from Bristol, I guess it must be undergoing maintenance if 017 has been hired in from DBC, 017 worked 0746 0Z39 Toton to Chaddesden, 0940 6Z39 to Willesden and 1548 6Z40 to Angerstein Wharf to form tonights 2300 to Scunthorpe Roxby Gullet

56091 worked 1027 0F81 Leicester LIP to Bristol Barton Hill WRD

60055 is scheduled to work tonights 2249 Kingmoor to Willesden

I can confirm it was 017 to Angerstein yesterday. Seemed to have a brand new rake of blue VTG wagons too, instead of the previously used mismatched bunch of rattly rusty ones.

With another batch of wagons on order I doubt the old ones will be around much longer, they may possibly find use with somebody once HS2 is underway seriously though, they've certainly paid their way

The good news last night was that 60028 was back out and worked 1910 0Z60 Toton to Wembley and then 0055 6Z60 to Acton Lane Rec Sdgs

60017 worked last nights 2300 6Z41 Angerstein to Scunthorpe RG and is returning to Willesden with 1606 6Z42

60055 worked last nights 2249 6Z27 Kingmoor to Willesden

One of 60028/60055 worked 1446 6Z28 Willesden to Willesden via Kew, Clapham Jct and Kensington Olympia and then 1843 6Z29 Willesden to Chaddesden via MML

56091 is at Bristol with scheduled Bristol - Wembley - Bristol trips tomorrow

56103 remains at Leicester and 60046 at Toton where it's undergoing a 'B' exam, reported that 055 is due in for its 'B' later this week, 60029 is yet to be released from Toton while 50008 is still under the surgeons knife at Leicester
