What will replace it will be anyones guess, but I don't think it'll be a like for like replacement. Especially when there's numourous retail units that are located in the arches themselves who'll need to relocate once the go ahead is given to demolish to the exisiting struture.
It may even be the case that only certain arches need work, my understanding is that it will all come down to structural surveys. Much like the temporary station at Hillhouse, complete replacement of the viaduct is just one of a multitude of options.

If the viaduct is replaced, I can't see a 19th century style stone and brick structure being the most cost-effective replacement structure!

Is it planned to demolish bridges at East of hudds Station, rebuild wider, straighter and in same direction as railway (ie without doing dogleg) extend platforms over part of widened viaduct?

I think wait and see what comes out on the 16th.

The last lot of plans implied the bridge over John William St (just east of station) would require replacement. It isn't clear whether the platforms will go over the bridge. Looks close though.

The existing viaduct is pretty close to straight on into Hudds station.

And said works to existing Hill House Bridge

The Bridges at Red Doles Road are double track only and modern.

And the bridge over the Canal in Bradley looks in poor state. It is down as `Works to Huddersfield Broad Canal Bridge`

The disused bridges over the canal mentioned above are currently used for works access for railway maintenance (road) vehicles, but are signposted as max. 7.5t. Replacement or refurbishment will be required there.

I don't believe there are any plans to extend the platforms on to the viaduct, as the cost would be significant even as part of an already major project. With regard to the dog legs, as all trains stop at Huddersfield they aren't really a problem, but hopefully the opportunity will be taken to sort out Platform 8's curvature.

With the introduction of a fourth through platform, the increase in point-work at the west end of the station will require the platforms to be pushed east. It is expected that these may well run right up to, or onto, the bridge/viaduct to the east of the station and could include provision of another subway/footbridge.

There's another round of consultation sessions. I'm hoping to call in, to see what the plans are on Saturday https://www.networkrail.co.uk/news/...ins-following-overwhelming-support-for-scheme
Network Rail has announced when the next stage of public consultation on proposals to upgrade the railway between Huddersfield and Westtown (Dewsbury) will take place.

The second stage of consultation to improve this eight mile stretch of the railway as part of the Transpennine Upgrade will run from Monday, 16 March until Friday, 10 April. During this time, residents will be able to provide further feedback on proposals, which include doubling the number of tracks, electrifying this section of the railway and improvements to stations.

The first round of public consultation on this part of the project showed that 85% of respondents supported the upgrade. Network Rail has further developed the proposals based on the feedback received and members of the public will now have a further opportunity to comment on the revised plans.

If you go on here and scroll right down to the bottom, there are bunch of PDF downloads.

General thoughts - the whole thing is a lot of work and will be really amazing when finished.

Things I thought from reading through,
  • Overhead line will go through the Gledhold tunnels and a short distance on the Penistone Line. (see the OLE PDF, the maps are really detailed)
  • Nothing about a hillhouse station, but hillhouse is the main compound.
  • 3 outline options for John William street bridge in Huddersfield. 2 with a central pillar. I think the pillar options are to try and build the thing faster so less disruption.
  • options to relocate Deighton station 400m west, to avoid knocking some houses down. Either way looks like a nice set of improvements.
    • Both have station forecourt, 3 blue badge spaces, step free access.
  • Canal bridge in Bradley is getting replaced.
  • Huddersfield station
    • getting bridge as well as the existing subway
    • subway will get extended to the new platforms
    • The `tea room` is moving. Presume they mean buffet.
    • 4 through platforms, 2 bi-directional, 1 bay to Leeds
  • Still no decision on fly over or dive under at Ravensthorpe. But the station moving towards Mirfield a bit (so should be able to have services to Leeds and Wakefield)

Questions not answered
  • timescales for work and disruption
