I know this isn’t relevant but how are CAF doing with 196 production compared to bombardier with the 730s?

All good, the first unit is built and has moved under its own power. First eight units to be built in Spain and the rest to be built in Newport.

I am fairly sure that new practices of trains stopping blocking level crossings are not permitted, though Whyteleafe is permitted for historical reasons.

Some village stations in Cambridgeshire had the platform extended only on the side where trains would otherwise have stopped blocking the level crossings, and use SDO in the other direction.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 350/2s are kept, apparently the 379s are staying at GA as well which as they are both Abellio makes me more certain, I am seriously concerned about the WMR interior, personally I dislike the livery as well but the 196 interior will look dirty immediately with the bright orange.

196s aren’t having the bright orange, ironing board interior originally proposed - they’ll look like these photos.

Interiors never end up looking like the computer designs, no armrests and those tables look woefully narrow and it looks a bit too grey and drab in my view, so i hope they don't end up like that. Can't see the seats being much different from a 195 to be honest.
Different seat manufacturer though I think, so there's hope there :)

They're FISA LEAN seats, not ironing boards. I would imagine that the tables will remain small as in the image because there's no real need for large ones on the routes that they will operate, and it means that they can probably fit in an extra couple of rows of airline seats if they make them smaller.

Anyway, back to 730s. As @samuelmorris says, there's a separate thread if anyone wants to discuss 196s in further detail.

Is the Abbey Line due to use 730s when these are in service? Are the platforms long enough for 5-cars?

I heard that 350s are not permitted on the Abbey line. Is this true?

If 350s aren’t used or permitted on the line what’s the alternative choice?
I would usually say the 350s could probably run there as they would have thought of it, but considering its Abellio and the cock ups on GA, I'm not so certain.

If this is true (I've heard it before but am not sure), changing whatever it is that causes them not to be permitted is almost certainly going to be the easiest option.

I remember reading it was a gauge issue or something that means they aren’t permitted on the line.

The sectional appendix shows only one restriction for 350s on the Abbey line, a speed limit of 5 mph in Watford Jn platform 11. I expect that’s fixable.

YouTube has a 350 videoed leaving P11

Yes it was a curvature of the line issue, and that pretty much put paid to plans to run direct from St Albans Abbey to Euston. The signalling was redesigned to allow for such services.
There were also sighting issues at certain points, mainly the foot crossings which have a high incidence of misuse along the line. An enclosed cab such as a 350 allows for less "viewing time" than a 319, that said 313's used to run along there quite happily.....

No class 319s are still to be running on the Abbey Line.

How will that work when the Class 319s are due to be removed from LNW?

Aside from the Class 350s, it's highly unlikely to expect a Class 730 to operate the Abbey Line, especially since LNW won't be operating the three car units.

Well if not class 319s then has to be a stock either created from scratch or cascaded stock.

Class 350s have been tested on the Abbey Line with a view to replacing the Class 319s - as seen here. The Class 730s will replace the Class 319s both directly and indirectly, LNW will not be needing any other electric units.

It's OK but it doesn't seem so good for the trains themselves when being limited to a very slow speed.

That isn't a problem with an EMU, it isn't like a car (or DMU).

There was a blockade a while ago (caused by seriously bad weather) that resulted in Pendolinos operating Tring stopping services for a week or so :)

A speed limit just in the platform will be fixable, and almost certainly completed in time for 350s to be used in stead of 319s. Mountains out of molehills here...

Is that cause true? I thought it was due to a class 90 derailing at Bletchley (South Jn) very early one Friday morning leaving most London Midland stock north of the blockage. Virgin had Pendolinos at Wembley, allowing them to help out quite successfully.
