Medical fails, unavailability, better job turned up, references no good etc etc - all reasons why they chosen candidate might not take up their post. Happens not infrequently if you read the whole thread!

Even if they are internal candidates? I saw one post about 50 pages back about someone who heard back after 10 weeks!!

Even internal candidates might then see their perfect job come up before they start a new one. Often it can be several weeks or even months before they are released from their current position and their situation changes in this time. I've known a signaller who was the successful candidate for a relief role and was even being paid for the new grade due to not being released. In the meantime they then successfully got a job as a MOM hence re-opening the relief vacancy.

With what is going on in the world at the moment is it likely that most of the signaller vacancies that are online now will not start potentially until next year? Given that signalling schools which have already been planned have now been postponed. Or could training possibly be done locally to combat the backlog of courses?

My training is being done locally, a new centre has opened in the city and I was told several new training centres will be opening to meet demand.

Apply, wait, read up on as much as I can about the role and interview. Cross my fingers and be patient is my plan.

I imagine interviews will be bottom of LOMs priorities now. Let alone asking people to travel to them.

I had my interview last week and the LOMs I spoke to said they wanted to continue interviewing by whatever means for as long as possible as there was a need to recruit.

Do intervals ever not start in a promotion? Is there any point even thinking about being the reserve candidate?

People drop out after a job offer, people fail Medicals, in my case I dropped out of my initial offer which was a FTC to take a permanent grade 7 job.

So it’s happens more often than you may think.

I would just apply for everything you like the look of. I can't imagine the recruitment process will exactly be flying along for the next few months and you may as well have your applications in if and when the process starts moving along. Also even if you were offered a start date before January could you not apply for early release from your forces notice period? Certainly during my time if you were moving into a public sector job (like Network Rail sort of is) they would give you a bit of leeway in not having to serve the full 12 months.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't apply to me as I'm coming to the end of my 22 so not got my notice in as such. Its just been announced today that they're offering extensions of at least a year due to the crisis. I think I'm going to take the plunge and apply and see what happens. Uncertain times. Good advice from those on here. Appreciated.

The job I have been offered certainly is (2 year fixed term).

Nope, not all, it will usually state in the job advert if it is. I was recently offered a permanent role.

Also, I see there is a volume recruitment for Worcester locations, are there any locations within the Worcester working region which are within an hours drive of Newport South Wales?
