Of course the 140 is a rare unit. What were the coaches at Grantown E? can't be certain from the pic as it is the interior.

I enjoyed a v good visit to Glenfiddich Visitor centre using the Dufftown line - but it wa s shame to get to the vistor centre and find vast numbers of road coach visitors that the railways could not otherwise benefit from their visitor spend. But I enjoyed the day and it was a while back as it was good to see the Brighton Belle driving vehicle there - now under restoration for the main line.

I didn't identify the carriages as I only saw them briefly in passing during a bike race, I had organised to go there for lunch with some friends but it fell through. I should also go back to the Dufftown line at some point and see it properly as well.

There used to be an on-track piling machine mounted on a length of track outside the piling manufacturing works in Newark-on-Trent a few years ago.

A Blue & Grey Mk1 coach used to languish in a field near Melton Mowbray. I believe it was used for training military police dogs.

I found a VL8 situated on top of something, somewhere in Tbilisi, Georgia.

I have no idea what's going on in this image.

If anyone knows, please fill me in.

I've been looking through a box of my Dad's photographs today and came across the attached shot of an engine running along the Esplanade at Dover. I've no idea what date it was taken.

That reminds me a bit of the railway line to Weymouth Quay that I think still can be seen there now. They still have some on street running in Switzerland, in Chur and towards Arosa and towards the end of the line that goes from Chur to Tirano. I think there is something similar in a town to the North of Copenhagen and on the Molli in North Germany.

I also remember and may have posted before, seeing a Green Carriage joined on to the Old Manor House, later Toc H at Warden Point on the Isle of Sheppey. Perhaps it may have come from the Sheppey Light Railway which operated on the Isle from 1900 to 1950.

I stopped in a lay-by on the A429 near Wellesbourne in Warwickshire and came across an ex-Connex South Eastern Class 508 unit on the back of three lorry trailers (one vehicle on each trailer) . I *think* I remember reading they were for a fire college in Gloucestershire at some stage. It would have been getting on for 8 years ago.

As a child in the 1950's I was fascinated to visit a distant relative in her 80's who lived in a converted box van located in a farm orchard near Keyworth Notts. . One end there was a small round wood/coal stove in the corner and a washbasin next to it . She was profoundly deaf and had an old fashioned ear trumpet for you to shout in. Unfortunately I have never come across a photograph although given the current lockdown I might have a trawl through the family photos.

Yeah that would have been unit 508212 destined for the Fire Training College at Moreton-in-Marsh. It moved there in August 2012, and is still there today I believe. One of the driving vehicles has been posed in an unorthodox position for a number of years:

Unless I've missed an earlier post, withdrawn Northern 142033 in front of South Wales Police Headquarters at Bridgend and used for training purposes

I've driven past them a few times and they're a couple of old 4CEP trailers by the looks of things, I'm pretty certain that they've got the distinctive aluminium hopper windows fitted to these units in the 1980s. That's just my assumption though.

Thanks - well off their beaten tracks then!

These are they!

Reminds me of a couple of places you pass on the ECML around York. One place has a few old Pullman-style coaches which I think are rented accommodation. The other is at what was once Otterington railway station, which has a single dead-looking MK2 coach (I think?) rotting in a siding. Saying that, fifteen feet from the ECML isn't exactly the strangest place to come across an abandoned coach.

When I worked at Manchester Airport and we were building the second runway in the late 90s /2000, there was a rail spur into the second runway works site which was used to import stone from the Peak District with usually a couple of trains per day. From my office block window high above the aprons you could see trains (usually EWS 60 and 66) parked in the unloading sidings alongside the runway with all manner of aircraft passing within 200 yards or so. May have some pictures somewhere but where they are heaven knows... Too many other things with a higher priority to do at present.

They definitely are. The photo a couple of posts later clearly shows one to be 70292, which was in unit 1554.

The Krauss 2-6-0T on a plinth at Heraklion harbour in Crete. I believe it came from the Athens-Piraeus line, but that is an almost 300 Km boat ride away and there are no railways on the island.

Also, scraping the barrel, a Wally Wagon type Dotto train, running inside the giant Times Square shopping mall building in Kuala Lumpur

This beast at Talana museum, near Dundee in Natal. NBC built for local colliery lines. The coach is used for conferences, but nary a rail connection to be seen.

Great shot of your Dad's.
I remember seeing in c1969 a rather similar loco running along Hall Quay, Great Yarmouth to supply the fishing vessels.

The former is The Sidings Hotel and Restaurant, utilising a number of mark 1s currently painted in a Pullman style umber and cream livery as dining space and accommodation:

They've been in place since 1985. There was an application made to the local council at the end of last year to remove the carriages and demolish the existing restaurant, but it was refused.

Thanks for this, I remember seeing an old steam locomotive on a harbour somewhere in Crete as a 10-year-old, but couldn't for the life of me remember which town/city it was in. In my head I'd ruled out Heraklion due to it being the largest city on the island.

The other coach at Grantown East is 70531, which apparently operated in 4-cep units 7182 & 1610 before running in 4-cig unit 1396.

I went in there whilst on the way back from the Keith & Dufftown Railway on my Scottish holiday last year. Very nice place that specialises in pizzas. Obviously the owners must have spent a lot of money on both the coaches and buildings. Hope they can get through the current difficulties and start up again when restrictions are lifted.
