Any number of reasons e.g. scheduling/driving hours/logical start point for providing service along that corridor etc (I imagine).
Similar vein as to why the last 106 & 124 of the night stop short at Haddington/Longniddry before running back to Musselburgh.
Hope you don't look at the 21 timetable or you'll really get confused...3 start at Davidson's mains and 1 terminates at the foot of Leith Walk. ;)

Anyways the 2 25s actually work over to Sighthill from town/Restalrig if you look at the timetable properly so in reality not many start short of their usual depot.

Plus you have to remember these are only temporary critical timetables, they won’t be forever. They’ve probably left many start/end shorts of their usual garages as eventually once Marine/Longstone open again they may keep these timetables for a few days before enhancing gradually to Sunday service, Saturday service and then normal timetables resume. Goodness knows when though!

So it's only buses from Central that have been moved to Newbridge? Makes sense as that's where the space is currently needed as all services operating from there.

On a separate note the 44 was run exclusively with XLB's today. The fact that it was only running the west section of the route a factor no doubt as well as there being plenty spare buses available.

what do you mean thats where the space is needed? its not like any additional buses have moved to central for it so the space would be similar to normal

It's not space for buses, but space for drivers to park.
The car park at Central is used to park buses overnight, so moving them elsewhere means there's no longer time restrictions on parking there.

Livingston and Musselburgh are still open as well as Central.

7, 16, 27, 29, 31, 37, 41, 44 were all B8L XLBs today. 1 was full ex London stock (which IMO it should stay that way after the time table goes back to normal as the 1 can be busy but the smaller B9TL is suited for it). I'm a tad suprised the 26 was not using B8L too, although how busy is it at the moment?

I wonder if that's because Marine Drivers are operating the 26 and haven't been trained on the B8L's yet? There are narrow roads on the Tranent route but B8L's regularly run on the N26 to Seton Sands. All the services that received the B8L today were Central routes albeit the 44 is also Longstone.

Yes, I was meaning spaces for drivers to park.

The XLB's can run the full length 44, in fact they have done. The reason their only running part route is to allow them to interwork, specifically for drivers breaks and driving hours.

Another reason their running part route is they want as much area covered by a bus service as possible. As such, the 113 is still serving Pencaitland and as that passes Wallyford it was easy enough to do a loop and continue back on route. It's less duplication of routes. It's important to keep links to the small towns.

It's the last time I'm going to say it, cause I feel its brought up regularly, but the XLB's can run on pretty much any route, with very little issue. They've even been tested on Tranent 26's and they fit, but it's a real squeeze at the junction of West Loan and Presron Road, it would need to have traffic lights fitted to allow full time operation. They are surprisingly manouverable. If we were to get more of these, the rear axle would need to be a steering axle.

I never said they could run on any route...

I'm not going to sit here and list every route they can and cant use because it's a waste of everyones time. When I'm back at work all get the clearance chart and post it.

nah it wasnt you who said it, believe it was 90019 who said that the only thing XLBs cant do is the left turn at the mini roundabout in pilton, other than that as you’ve said they’re cleared everywhere

in all honesty low height XLBs maybe? not sure on the bridge height. maybe even the 38 aswell
If you wanna end up with an E300XLB crack on lol, both are impossible unless bridges are rebuilt to allow Double Deck working and considering one of the bridges has the GtoE mainline and the other one being an access point into the new EMU yard no chance.

You could fit an XLB under the bridge at Balgreen though it would be rather tight, but as it's signposted for 14' and they're 14'2, it's a no go.
XLBs are 14”2? thought they were give or take an inch the same size as geminis (14”6)

They could lower the road, however the chances of that are pretty unlikely unless it was causing a major bottleneck.

Honestly a year ago I wouldn't have been too surprised had Lothian bought E200XLBs or E300XLBs, as they could probably get ADL to make them if they really wanted to
