Of course it won't have escaped forum members, the irony that we now have a 7 day a week through service to Stevenage - no Watton turn rounds.
Stay safe

A Sunday timetable with earlier starts and some peak extras is operating which means Hertford loop services run to Stevenage.

Presumably will continue to run into P4 until P5 is ready - then could move into P5 and is nolonger dependent on May timetable?

In theory that could happen except platform 5 works need to be finished and it's been indicated further upthread that work has stopped.

I was tempted to try and video some update, but given the current lockdown thought it wasn't really cricket as its not essential - I was planning on releasing a 20m video on the project from start to finish, but as I won't be able to attend the 1st public service to conclude the video here it is in its 99% complete format :) - There are some new clips that I didn't use before, so not entirely a repeat :)

Does anyone know if any work has been done regarding the platform and lift for P5.
Just wondered what might happen next week when the timetable changes?

The GN website info for the new timetable on https://www.greatnorthernrail.com/travel-information/plan-your-journey/coronavirus-information states
  • Buses will replace trains between Watton-at-Stone and Stevenage on Monday to Saturday while Network Rail completes a major upgrade to Stevenage station

The page for the upgrade project https://www.greatnorthernrail.com/a.../trains-between-stevenage-and-watton-at-stone has yet to be updated with the revised info.

Well now that the restrictions have been eased, I'm hoping to record some footage (adhering to social distancing) and see just what's left to do. I have noticed a very small skeleton workforce as I've driven past over the past few weeks when delivering shopping to the mother-in-law. My contacts at Spencers have been furloughed so nothing forthcoming from them... yet.

Anyone know is the track and signalling done - I.e. just the platform to be finished?

The track & signalling was commissioned prior to the lockdown. However, with a Saturday Service being reintroduced from Monday 18th, all trains will revert to terminating at Watton-at-stone Monday-Saturday. I've been advised that the Bay could open in August.

Good to see that the Moorgate tunnel works finished on time and that evening services have resumed from there.
There's been a lot of platform closures at KX in the evening, so I assume this all helps with the KX Uncrossed project.

As far as engineering works are concerned? Not a clue. I saw on LinkedIn that the ECML PSU team were out and about this weekend, but nothing was disclosed as to where they were, so it could be unrelated. Besides, I'm not sure if the HL was even included in the PSU works.

PSU? Can you explain what it actually stands for please?

Power Supply Upgrade. Works have been going on from Wood Green FS to Bawtry MPTSC to upgrade the ECML's power supply (mainly by removing Booster Transformers and converting Return Conductors into Earth Wire); from just south of Welwyn to just north of Hitchin, work has also been underway to convert the main line to Auto Transformer operation.

I've been trying to keep track of progress of the works, but with the COVID-19 crisis, it's plummeted down the list of priorities.

I know there's cabling I think is related along the line but not too sure, again apologies but could you again explain what MPTSC is and FS is as they mean something but not to me.

FS - Feeder Stations are points where the National Grid transmission or local distribution networks supply traction current to the OLE. They may also be accompanied by neutral sections (OHNS) to keep the feeding sections electrically separate (certainly if the feeder station uses 2 phases).

TSC - Track Sectioning Cabins allow individual sections of OLE to be isolated and enable different feeding arrangements in case of a supply fault / planned maintenance / etc. Mid Point variants (MPTSC) are situated midway between two feeder stations and are accompanied by neutral sections as above.

Those with technical know-how can elaborate further if need be, but I think that's the gist of it.

Thank you, just sometimes we all forgot that not all of us know the shortened jargon etc indeed the rules do say:

Please remember many members do not understand rail “jargon” (including acronyms, station codes and specialist terms). Such terms should be correctly defined the first time they are used; codes and abbreviations must not be made up.

That's just a friendly reminder for us all :)

Can I ask where you get your info from? All my sources at Spencers are furloughed at the moment so details are hard to aquire.
We've been told (within GTR) that it's currently around 8-10 weeks behind schedule. Of course with the limited numbers of workmen on site this could slip further, but if it doesn't then as Class315 said, August would be correct.

With the works being delayed, will this mean the route knowledge into the platform by drivers also be delayed meaning no passenger services using the new platform until the Dec 2020 TT change?

Route knowledge for that sort of thing wil be a couple of pieces of paper in a brief. Shouldn’t be an issue.

Does that mean for example if the works is completed on Day A then the infrastructure can be used at start of service on Day B eg next day or is there a reason it can't?

As the track infrastructure is in place so shouldn't be a issue?

As long as everyone is briefed, and the infrastructure has been authorised for entry into service (see Market Haroboro) then yes.

Thank you, so once in service then there shouldn't be a reason not to operate 2tph north of Hertford North and 4tph south of said location providing paths are there?

Indeed a quick fag packet calculation I did with the pre May 2018 TT actually worked that the hourly terminator could be extended to Stevenage plus make the return working on time by using the time it would otherwise be sat at Hertford North so provided on a weekend 2tph between Stevenage and London via Hertford calling all stations.

The service is already in place. The Watton terminators already have enough time to extend to Stevenage, terminate there and get back to Watton. There's no real alteration south of Watton (perhaps a minute here or there).
There'll be 2tph 7 days per week.
