What on earth is this relic? Is it a relic?

Whilst out walking for the once-a-day permitted exercise, I was walking along an abandoned railway embankment (specifically, part of the Banbury to Buckingham line) and I came across this metal thing sticking out of the ground.

Can anyone tell me what it is or was part of?

I don't know what the term is but it looks to me like an anchor point for holding up something. The 'something' would be a short distance away with a cable from the top down to this loop, thus making a triangle.

If I'm right, somebody else must know what the correct words are!

Could be an anchor point for a guy rope? Often used to keep stable a tall signal or telegraph pole.

That was my thought too. The rope would be looped through it and fixed back on itself with some kind of clamp, which could be adjusted to change the tension.

Thank you from me too.

When I was growing up in the 80s we lived about 5 minutes walk away from the then disused Snow Hill to Wolves Low Level line, I used to regularly play there as a child and remember seeing one of these then, always wondered what it was for. I'd totally forgotten about it until reading this thread, a 35 year old mystery is now solved :D
