I don't think anybody has changed the way they are driven. If on greens we wind them up and let them go. Purely engine faults resulting in some 4-cars running with 3 engines. No economy measure.
Good to know :D. I was on a 755 yesterday that either matched or beat the Stowmarket to Ipswich Class 86 record of 8 min 54sec - on.leccy of course..and courtesy of clear sigs into P1. Makes a change not to be stopped outside Ipswich waiting for a platform!

Any likelihood that a pair of 755s in multiple may be used on Norwich to Liverpool St duties from April if there are not enough 745s accepted and a shortage of 321s to deputise?

Dear lord....read the news. We are likely to see a drastic reduction in services and changes to the franchising.

Expect skeleton services whilst staffing permits.

As suggested above (although perhaps not so abrasive!), imminent quarantine means it's all up in the air what happens in April. If the service needs to go hourly as of April when the 90s are off-lease, so be it. They're still likely to cope with the first half of the 745 fleet and the odd pair of bins.

There was a recent posting regarding 755s undergoing multiple working tests. Does anyone know how and where these went ?

Sites such as this will hopefully go someway to keeping us sane during the next three months !

Hearing that 755 327 ended up on 1P67 Norwich to Liverpool St as far as Colchester where it terminated due to the booked 745 suffering a fault at Norwich.

Due to a problem with the doors I see.
Is is because they aren’t cleared south of Marks Tey or are they and we don’t know about it? Would be nice to spot a 755/3 on the IC although with virus overcrowding I’m not too sure I’d want to be on it.

Wow
everyone lost interest in these units?

Unless you are a key worker in Norfolk or Suffolk who relies on them for commuting to a workplace, any interest in these units is a bit off the agenda. A bit surprising to see an hourly service on all of the routes from Norwich given some of the cutbacks elsewhere.

There is a 755/3 working the bittern line than makes an awful sounds from the fans, higher pitched and a good 10x louder than any other unit. I know it's been reported to GA.

No lack of interest. Just that most people are not travelling by train..so much less to report. And of course they do seem to have settled down well - as we hopes they would.

I'm glad to have enjoyed the 755/4s in the early days..because the power outputs in diesel mode have most definitely been turned down a notch - though no official word on this. I cannot believe that every single 4-car is running around with a failed engine now!
To be fair the current schedules are easy meat for the lower powered 755/3s. But still - a shame to lose that effortless thrust!

Perhaps the 755/4's are running on 3 engines, 'cos that's enough power to keep the to the schedules? ISTR some comments re. the TMS could/would select which engine to shut down, based on evening out the engine hours.

There where several doing this. Been told it should improve after their next software update.

That might be the unit that tempted a letter to yesterday's EDP when a Wroxham resident said the 'new trains sound like an aircraft taking off' ?

Yes the local village facebook group took off, ironically as I read your reply 2S09 came past sounding like a turbo fan aircraft, seems to just be 755/3

How difficult is it to restore? Is it just a matter of cleaning the muck off or does it require a total repaint?

A lot of plastic vinyls have a surface that makes it hard for the molecules of paint to stay bonded to itself. So it could be just a case of some stuff from a bottle and hot water.

Another local resident complaining to the EDP again today. Same one?

I would be facinated to see actual noise readings. It's highly unlikely that they're anywhere close to what aircraft put out.

On which NATS have some sound balanced videos to allow comparison of different aircraft noise levels, which is interesting. Obviously the only way to compare accurately would be to use the same equipment, same settings, same processing.

Is there a link to the EDP article about this train's noise? I can't seem to see it on their website.

Fair enough complaining a few months back but anyone doing so just now would IMO be justified to be getting told by GA that right now we're trying to hold our s**t together just like the rest of the country not sort out a noisey train!

The poor sod is probably stuck at home now hearing that train drone past every few hours. A bit of loss of perspective is understandable. GA could defend itself by pleading reduced capacity and most will understand but a fix would be even better.

If you choose to live next to a railway line or an airport, you must expect noise.
