Deffo went off at Retford straight to Worksop, watched it on railcam diagram

And the lack of any real times on any of the timing points from Retford to Doncaster on 5Z91 and any intermediate timings on 5Z92 goes to prove this. I know RTT isn't infallible, but I believe the arrival time for 5Z91 and both the departure and arrival times for 5Z92 were manually inputted, whereas the times on that part of the route should have come straight from the Train Describers.

How many 91s and rakes are now left with LNER?
12 rakes remain, and 2 more are to go to store in the current tranche.
Sets in store are: BN01, BN02, BN09, BN11, BN14, BN16, BN18-25, BN27, BN28 (part), BN29, BN30.
Of those, BN19, BN22, BN27, BN29 & BN30 are being used for training with Grand Central, BN20 & BN21 are in Widnes for overhaul prior to use with Grand Central, and BN23-BN25 have transferred to TfW, being renumbered HD01-HD03 respectively.

In each transferred set, coaches B/C/H/L & the DVT are being retained, with the GC sets also retaining coach F.

Can LNER not exclusively use Azuma under the emergency timetable?

Possibly but trains don't like standing idle and crews traction knowledge doesn't last forever so if you can use a mix of rolling stock it would be sensible to continue doing so!

As above - it's rather akin to how you don't want to leave your car standing still for long periods of time. Especially if you intend to go back to regular use.

Note how the Gatwick Express Class 387s (and their dedicated train crew) are being used on Southern services.

Thanks for this
No worries.

Of the 91s, the following have been withdrawn from frontline ECML duties:
102 (Doncaster RMT), 103 (at BN), 104 (Doncaster RMT), 108 (Doncaster Works), 112 & 113 (both Doncaster RMT), 116 (Doncaster RMT), 117 (Leicester for Europhoenix), 118 (Doncaster RMT), 120 (Leicester for Europhoenix), 122 (Leicester for ROG), 125 (at BN), 128 (Leicester for ROG), 129 (Doncaster RMT), 131 (Doncaster RMT), 132 (at BN).

101, 105-107, 109-111, 114, 115, 119, 121, 124, 126, 127 and 130 are still in service, a total of 15. That's the halfway mark for withdrawals passed.

Again thank you for this. I'd got a rough idea but since lockdown it seems quite a few have understandably left LNER with less requirement.

Of those that are left, I wonder if it is just coincidence that all those carrying a commerative/unique livery are still in service - 101, 110, 111, 114, 119 and 121 - or is this just down to maintenance timings etc?

I don't think it's coincidence at all that the special livery locos are being saved for last. In any case, 119 will almost certainly be the last one withdrawn, as it was basically rebuilt from the ground up after its near-total internal self-immolation in 2018.

Was that immolation a result of the heavy snowfall that year?

Yes; LNER (or VTEC as was) were still running services at full whack in the snowstorm, rather than reducing speed accordingly. As a result, snow built up in such quantities over the vents over the traction motors, and (IIRC) when the hot air from the blowers melted said snow, the resulting water got into the loco and short-circuited much of the electrickery, causing that very catastrophic failure.

Just one correction to that list - 125 is also stood down, at BN.

It's a nice touch then to keep the special liveries. I had read the plan with 119 but wasn't sure about the others.

Cheers

Glad to hear 119 is likely to stay. Wouldn't it be amazing if they repainted a Mk4 set and DVT to do a farewell tour like they did with the HSTs. Obviously it couldn't run in normal service though.

Does anyone know when 91118 was moved from Bounds Green to Doncaster?

Did it run under its own power?

Anyone know what is happening with 91131? It's on the railway heritage designation list isn't it along with 91111 and (more-recently) 91010.

91111's vinyls, name and number panel (yes, really) have been de-designated according to this: https://www.sciencemuseumgroup.org....2019/12/RHC-Designated-Items-Publish-2019.pdf

Common sense - how do you preserve just the vinyl?

It is slightly ridiculous, though, to have two Class 91s designated - although both have serious merits to them (UK's former speed record holder and last UK built express passenger loco/last loco built at Crewe Works).
