Very nice - I like the added sound :D
That service is quite interesting - I've always found "interesting" services on model railways, well - interesting - as normally you just see random trains going round and round. www.hondawanderer.com is good for interesting services - I've done a quick search on there for Lapford and here are a couple of photos (not sure if they're your era but they could help with scenery):

Hope these are interesting.

-Peter
I had the one 50031 already but the DMU one. Thanks for that.

You're welcome. I've found that site extremely interesting in planning aspects of my railway, ranging from tiny scenic things to services and stock formations :)

Somewhat inspired by your video @malc-c, I finally got around to uploading my first clip onto YouTube tonight.

It’s of 33102 heading towards Barnstaple with the mixed stock for the early morning Barnstaple to Paddington service in July 1987. ;)

Very good! Feel free to post more of that!

Just seen the posts about back scenes. I added some a few weeks back and I was impressed by the difference and I wondered why I took so long to try it.
Picture attached and the wonky signal was just sat there for the picture. I've always been fascinated by signals with feathers.20200414_224227.jpg

That looks great. Where did you get the backscene from? It’s got a nice photographic quality to it.

I've still got the cardboard tube it came in.
It's something like Gaugemaster but I'll check and let you know. It is an actual photograph like this one at the other end of the layout. Not the best picture but they come in 3 pieces about 3 foot each.20200414_190152.jpg

This picture shows my earlier hand painted attempt. I was quite please with it until I saw the photographic versions. If it wasn't in the shade of the loft beam I' think about changing it.
The picture also shows one of my recent projects( after all that's the thread topic), the class 13 lurking in the siding.20200414_223005.jpg

Thanks. I’ll have a go at some point once I’ve given the track a clean and weathered everything a bit more for @hexagon789. ;)

;) how about we just say the wash plants down south are more effective than Scottish ones?

Besides which, I have some weathering to do at some point with some Mk2s, given I've never done that before I'm somewhat daunted by the thought of muckying-up some pristine coaches.

I like the greenery, the wee shrubs and bushes you've got in and around the track. May I ask where you got the stuff for then from?

Thanks for the backscene info, I’ll look into that.
Did you make the class 13? Looks really good.

The back scenes are Gaugemaster- see images.
The wee bushes are clump foliage, from Woodland scenic. Picture attached.
I also realised what makes the backscene work is how you blend the join.
I used a combination of clump foliage and real moss( gathered from dry stone walls on the canal and allowed to dry) placed just in front of the photo image it's hard to tell which is photo and which is real.

Here's a better picture of the backscene.
And the class 13!
Its based on 2 x Bachmann 08s . I was going to take one motor out but to be honest I couldn't fathom how it came out so I left it in.
To be fair with the Bachmann pick up arrangement it's better that way as at least it doesn't stall on points. It's not quite finished yet but I'm pleased with it so far.

Actually, just noticed by lookjng at that photo that I've missed refitting the brake rodding on the 13.
I tell you what though it does look really good. Great job.
I love all the MGR feel about it.

Started the ballasting this weekend. Going to take my time with this bit as I want it to look just right. Woodland Scenics fine grey blend with some ScaleModelScenery UTX cable ducting inserted in a couple of places for detail. Quick spray with some water, and then glued with Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement. Pleased with how it’s turned out so far.

It's not hard at all. I use watercolours as used for art, plenty of water then wipe off after 5 seconds. It works and details get kept in indentures more than on the flat body. Rough/porous surfaces are best though.

Have you got any pictures of your work Peter?

I have a model railway but it's in a different location and would probably be classed as non essential travel. It's not really a hardcore project where making it look as realistic as possible, it's mostly just for a bit of fun. In terms of projects, mostly just repairs of my locomotives. One of my 2 triang dock shunters requires replacement motor (brushes, coil etc) and my APT power car seems to derail often only with its body shell on.
I understand Hornby are releasing a new APT so may consider checking eBay for a new middle vehicle if the couplings etc are the same...

Love it.... and I'm chuffed (sorry no punn intended) to bits that my video inspired someone to do the same

Well I to have been inspired by the support and encouragement from the forum, and spent the weekend altering the platforms (now repainted) and ballasting the track. I've been a subscriber to Everard Junction on youtube for some time and watched his old video of how he weathered his trackwork.... I've ordered an airbrush kit with compressor which should be here by the end of the week.... 58 and learning a new skill - hopefully I won't screw it up !

Nice job Tom. Very neat indeed.

Yes very neat indeed... I've just done the same on my N-Gauge layout, but it's not as neat and tidy as that....but working in a smaller scale is more challenging, well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :)

It is tricky doing the ballasting on N gauge track that’s for sure. I ended up misting it with water so that it didn’t move too much before using a dropper for the glue. Absolutely kicked myself that I hadn’t done it that way before.

I did a similar thing, only misting with IPA, which not only dampened the fine ballast so it didn't float on the diluted PVA, it also helped disperse the PVA solution better than when a drop of washing up liquid is added. I'm happy with the result. I've just cleaned off any ballast that is stuck to the side of the rails and started the tedious job of painting the rails a rust colour. The intention is then to give the track a light spray of sleeper grime, and some light blackening just to tone down that bright fresh even look freshly laid ballast gives. But it could all go wrong as I've only ever sprayed things using Halfords aerosols before... never touched an airbrush :)

Well I bought an airbrush recently (I’ve had them before), and enjoyed using it again. It’s good fun practicing.

Thanks all. It takes me a while but worth it I think. Ballasted points for the first time today and don’t think I’ve done a very good job as one doesn’t switch properly. I thought this might happen so haven’t glued around the switch or the sleepers. When the rest is dry I’ll hoover up the bits causing the problem and be more careful next time!
