I've been having fun this evening.....
I toyed with the idea of scratch building the station, but given the current situation don't have the luxury of spending hours in my local model shop buying plastic sheeting etc. I've known about Metcalfe kits for some time, but have never purchased one because I thought that kits like Ratio had more realism, but having seen how much the basic station building now costs I had to rethink. So I looked to see what was on offer and their wayside station kit would suit the type of location I'm modelling, and then proceeded to try and find somewhere that had the kit in stock.... With Metcalfe closed due to CV19 restrictions most of the on-line retailers were out of stock. After hours of searching I found a website with stock available... the only drawback was the delivery charge was as much as the kit itself !.... so I made the order up by adding the wayside station shelter, some Ratio platform lamps, a signal kit and some station fencing... so it justified the £8.70 delivery cost
The parcel arrived this afternoon, so after we had finished our evening meal I sat down and opened the station kit.... Wow... For the £8.95 you get a lot of parts. The instructions are good, although I do wish that they printed the numbers of the parts on the thick grey card support parts rather than the V's and II's etc. But what did impress me was the precision which the parts interlocked and went together. The weight of this structure is incredible for a card kit, and the modular construction makes it really sturdy... I've stopped building for now as its getting late, plus I want to add some lighting (which i wish I had thought about before gluing the first roof section in place). I will also paint the white card edges before fitting the canopy to make it less like a card model.....
