A career as a signaller

Well done. :D

As I mentioned recently a number of new positions have been created as a result of the new Network Rail fatigue standard management being introduced. This means a signal(wo)man who works more than 60 hours per week would need to be risk assessed and have a management plan. The East Midlands area needs about 30 new posts, just to cover this new standard - never mind any ongoing vacancies.
aah, I see. Sounds like it was a good time to be applying then :D

It was one of my first applications and my first interview so I am over the moon to be successful :D
I need to say a big thanks to all the contributors to this forum. The information here has been invaluable and I doubt I would have been successful without it!

Thanks for this, do you mind me asking when you had your formal job offer, presuming was before lockdown and you have been waiting for a few weeks/months?

Hope the course goes well for you and you do well
I interviewed at the end of Jan, had completed all the background checks including medical at beginning of March, and I'm currently waiting for a signalling school place. No word as of yet as to when that will be

Hi all, I applied for a crossing keeper job (IRC2181200) at Didcot on 14th April, my application is sat at Test Completed. Notice the same job has been advertised again today (IRC2184435). Should I apply again I wonder?

Have read recent posts about the new 10 week signalling school, has anyone any idea what the backlog is for getting new starters a place at school?

My son was successful in his application and got the formal job offer in March and obviously is now waiting patiently for a place at school to get his start date, any info greatly appreciated.
A few of us on here were due to start school in York on 27/4 but due to Covid, it’s been delayed due to smaller groups and social distancing etc. No start dates as of yet but it seems like things are moving again.

With all the madness going on, does anyone know if PRP will still get paid next month? Had a peek at old payslips and saw that last year we got it in June so in theory it should come through not payday next week, but in 5 weeks time.

I had a look online for local scorecards etc but couldn't see anything. If anyone knows anything or could point me in the right direction I'd be mighty obliged :)

Excellent news! So pleasing that someone off this forum got it ☺️. I’ll be popping in an application for one of the other 4 reliefs I think so hope to see you there.

No, your app is in the system at test complete so you’ll be selected to go forward if you scored high enough.

Crossing keepers train at their location, no requirement for signalling school.

TVSC crossing keepers are assigned to link 3 (Grade 7) but are grade 2 as they oversee four crossings.

0700-1900-0700 12hr turns.

There was message put out last week from the Chief Exec about it.
Dear colleagues,

I wanted to share the latest information about this year's Performance Related Pay (PRP). It's around this time of year that we typically announce the final out-turn for our schemes.

We find ourselves in unchartered waters as we continue to face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. Given this, the Remuneration Committee has decided to push back any decision on 2019/20 Performance Related Pay, until we know when and where we land, operationally and financially, both as a country and a company.

I hope you can see that this is a sensible approach and in no way a reflection of the amazing work done over the past year, and particularly in recent months, as we've come together to keep passengers and freight moving.

I will be in contact again about this at a later date when we have more information.

Thank you for what you are doing.
One would hope that there may be some sort of remuneration for the current performance figures, but as it isn't money earned then it isn't missed.

I wonder if the firm will remember how much hard work, allowed terms to be bent and generally knuckles down when pay award time comes round....

Hmm yeah. Its hard to word it without sounding greedy but on the one hand I totally appreciate that until a clearer picture of the finances is available then it's reasonable to hold back, whereas on the other hand the vast majority of us have still been coming to work everyday while Rome burns, and basically just cracking on with keeping things moving.

As you say, it wasn't earned so won't be (totally) missed, but I should like to think the subject will be broached again when things calm down a bit.

Many thanks! Yes, I have reached the bench mark scores so will wait to hear.

Why the second advert though, any idea?

Hi everyone, how far is an acceptable commute? I am considering applying for the Paignton box, according to maps, it’s a 53 minute drive, I’ve seen on here that 45 minutes is about the max!
