Was it only me that noted the HST appeared to depart Inverness with white lights showing to rear, or was it actually arriving and the film was reversed?

It would have been played backwards.

It's difficult to film without having the expense of multiply film crews. The same reason the so say same train jumped from being in Scotrail livery to being in First Great Western blue.

Six thousand five hundred was the spoken version, someone obviously missed a few zeroes from the script (or Mr Nighy can't read)

Tonight's episode... Spain... I am sure I've seen about 90% of what was in it before in a different documentary under a different title...?

I concluded it was a straightforward repeat despite not being marked as such. I recalled lots of it too.

I am starting to get extremely annoyed with Channel 5...!!! Might not bother with the rest of the series now...

Any idea what it was titled as last time round, though?

I need to get my memory seen to then!

Right... OK... so I may as well not bother with the rest of the series?

I had a similar experience ... I thought, hasn't Chris Tarrant or Tony Robinson done this trip already? - without realising I must have watched the exact same programme before.

I don't think I'd seen last week's Scottish one before, though, so is this series a mix of new and repeats? C5 does have a rather cavalier attitude to scheduling, Rob Bell's and Tony Robinson's series had random gaps in the broadcasts too.

Just to add to the confusion ... in my TV listings mag, this Friday's programme, about a luxury train in South Africa (presumably the Blue Train) is shown as episode 2 of 10, despite being the 3rd one shown. It's also not shown as being a repeat - so was last week's Spanish repeat a one-off and the rest of the series is new?

It's followed by a programme about Michael Portillo visiting British Empire locations, starting in India, but doesn't mention a railway theme for this.

Next week's episode (C5 - Friday 22nd May 2020 at 8.00 p.m.) is listed as being Series 2 - Episode 3 of 10 and features the El Chepe train travelling across Northern Mexico from Chihuahua to the Pacific. Narrator is once again Bill Nighy.

I recall seeing a Blue Train documentary not very long ago - curiously enough around the time of the Spanish one!!

Given what we have seen so far, that makes my mind up for me - it's probably a repeat and I'm abandoning the series...

More likely that C5 are padding out the series by intermingling (old) episodes from Series 1 with (new) episodes from Series 2.

Isn't that the same train that Tony Robinson travelled on, in the Americas sector of his Around the World series a few weeks ago?

Before long some of these presenters and camera crews will bump into each other somewhere.

Well it wasn't the Blue Train, it followed a Rovos Rail trip from Pretoria to Durban, and I don't think I'd seen it before. The route passed close to where friends of mine live, and I think I'd have remembered that. Overall, pleasant watching in a laid back sort of way, with a nice side diversion to a steam line I hadn't heard of before.

The Mexican episode passes through some incredible terrain. I think that these programmes beat Portillo, Tarrant & Robinson’s programmes about rail travel.

I had not seen this before, I watched the one on Rovos Rail, El Chepe and most recently one in France from Nimes to Clermont Ferrand & Le Puy Dome, I have enjoyed the programmes as they are new to me. The French one could be one to bear in mind to do when things improve. It looked very interesting indeed. I just had a look at the times in an ERT, there don't seem to be many trains on the line, or it's continuation north toward Paris and unusually to / from Gare Bercy. I think this week's episode is on North Island, New Zealand.

I watched these last night. I really enjoyed the Scottish one and the French one. The El Chepe was recently done by Tony Robinson so less interesting for that reason, although I did think this showed it better. I'm enjoying this series as it's presented in a more adult manner and spares you the various ego trips of the presenters and includes the opinions of normal/local/expert people. Simple touches like telling you the line is served by Class 170 and Class 43 trains, rather than just fake awe at travelling on an un-named train.

Bizarely on my Sky Catch Up, there is no episode 3. It goes Scottish (Ep1), Mexican (Ep2), French (Ep4).

This week's episode of "The World's Most Scenic Journeys" (Channel 5, Friday 5th June 2020, 8.00 p.m.) is a trip aboard New Zealand's Northern Explorer (A traverse of the North Island from Auckland to Wellington). Vast landscapes, some lush green and others volcanic. And marvellous viaducts. Enjoy!

N.B. This episode is number 5 of ten in Series Two.

I've seen that one already I think. What is going on?

My listings magazine could have the wrong info. Alternatively, it could be another repeat / revised repeat masquerading as a "new" episode.

There was also an episode in Series 1 (Episode 3) that featured New Zealand as well (Greymouth -> Christchurch), maybe you are thinking of that one.

I have just watched that, it was excellent, it was interesting to note that the areas around Auckland and Wellington, plus parts in the centre seemed to have overhead electric wiring and other parts did not. The train looked very smart and well used. I think, apart from that route, the only other mainline long distance train routes in New Zealand are from Christchurch to Picton and Christchurch to Graymouth. I have done the latter and also the Southerner from Christchurch to Dunedin which now is a freight line only I think.

I think it about a line in Finland next week.
That's correct. The upcoming episode of "The World's Most Scenic Railway Journeys" next Friday (Channel 5, Friday 12th June 2020, 8.00 p.m.) is a 600 mile journey through scenic Finland (forests, frozen lakes, etc.) from Helsinki in the South to Kemijärvi in Lapland. The train trip calls at Rovaniemi on Northern Finland, the "official" home of Father Christmas.

Yes I shall look forward to that. I did stay in Helsinki once, years ago, there was a steam train of the Sunday morning that departed from the main station in Helsinki. (Also featured in a 1960s Micheal Caine Film) the train went into the country side for about 2-3 hours each way to a town begining with an H , picking up passengers enroute, there was a glassworks nearby the trackside where you were dropped off.
