I hope they’ve put a crew locker in the middle of a 10 car if they expect guards to patrol the train. Bit of a long walk to the rear every time the guard fancies a drink, and seeing as they were always planned to have someone at least rostered on the train, you’d hope that’s taken into consideration.

does anyone know if they went ahead and put the bio toilets on the units like they originally planned?
Not on the 720s - I believe guards are only required in the parts of the franchise area that aren't DOO. I don't believe any alterations were made with regard to rolling back DOO, only ensuring guards remained present in areas they were required before. Services to Southend and Braintree, to my knowledge, will still be DOO throughout on 720s. I also believe guards join/leave services that go further afield at Colchester?

It's only the Walton-Thorpe-Colchester Town services that have guards. The Clactons are DOO throughout.

Does it really take 8 hours to get from Derby to Eastleigh
thats something like 25mph average
If you look at the RTT data, you'll see there's a number of stops factored in. Staff breaks, pathing allowances, etc.

6X20 is on the diagram at litchurch and has the green light.
I bet there's a few peeps on the platform to see it at Derby right now.

Two and a half of those hours are spent in stations or sidings keeping out of the way of other services, so it's not quite as bad as that!

Clearly playing safe, if it is timed for 60mph max and over half the journey is on 4 track railway, or probably more like three quarters if you include bi-directional sections that would allow other trains around it.

Not the shortest route either as Derby is almost due north of Eastleigh, (Derby is further West by 0.1 degrees)

Consist is 701002 with 66740 and 66745 TnT. (one of them may get knocked off after the reversal in Chaddesden, not sure).
I expect with the relaxed passenger timetables still in operation it may get routed ahead of time in places.

That’s in a standard pathon the MML, and other services in that path usually run to time.

The first door needs to be painted/vinyled white as its not PRM compliant, I'm surprised it's not been delivered ready and sign written too

But apart from that it's a aventra

Well the Logos aren't on either. I'd imagine this will be done in-house.. probably where the front Door get's Grey Vinyls too.

Passed Leicester on the freight line 56 minutes late.
It's stretched out to 70L now. It's losing a lot of time considering there doesn't appear to be anything in its path. Wonder what the problem is?

Just saw it pass Bedford. In addition to the two barriers, there's what appeared to be about 5 flats with a layer of concrete sleepers on them, and the other 66 hanging on the back. All for brake force no doubt, assume the unit's brakes will be isolated?

Add: It's back on time now, missed out a couple of stops.

The presence of the concrete-sleeper laden flats, as well as the fact it was haemorrhaging time makes me think it's being run completely dead and at a reduced speed, possibly as a result of the loughborough SPAD a few months ago?

It is going to be vinyled though, is it not? This image posted earlier in the thread looks PRM compliant

That would appear to be a different unit on the test track, this is the unit being delivered today. (Not my photo).

Anyone know what type of testing they’ll be doing? Who’s tests them etc? Still imagine it’ll be a little while before it’s being tested on the network or am I wrong?

When are these going to enter service now covid-19 has delayed things and which class of the current suburban stock is disappearing first from SWR?
