...However if my post is offending people then id love to get rid of it. I was literally just asking what a better station would be to work at, and i already seem to have caused some issues with people. Im trying to delete it now.

No worries. Hope we’ve all got the wrong end of the stick!
Best of luck with the application!

Hi, it's been a couple of years since I last posted on here, I applied for a few different signaller roles over the time, waiting for opportunities to come up within a sensible distance of home.
But unfortunately i was never successful to get to the interview stage.
Fast forward to the present and I applied for a couple of positions locally, redone my tests and completely rewrote the 70 questions.
Just looked today to see my status has changed to invite to assessment 2 pending!
Am I correct in thinking this means I should get an interview?
Thank you!
Congratulations, and yes!

Where are you if you don’t mind me asking?
Tell her you could earn up to £100,000 that’s lots of shoes and handbags I’m sure she’ll change her mind lol
She is on good money to, that’s the reason we can’t move too far really, never mind i will keep applying at any near the midlands and remain positive

Rugby SCC, Marston Vale would be your nearest. West Midlands SCC (Birmingham), East Midlands SCC (Derby) could be options.

Rugby and West Mids have both been external in the last few months unfortunately.

Also got my first ‘Invite to Assessment 2 Pending’ today. Absolutely delighted, now to dig out the NTS Will be my first job interview for 6 years I think, hope it’s not too awkward doing it remotely.

I’m also from the Northamptonshire area... do you purely just use the network rail website for opportunities.. looks like the next closest to me to all the way to Evesham

Tell me what you know about the role

I had an interview last month and I wasn't asked any of those 4 points apart from the safety question. I was very surprised as I thought I would be guaranteed to be asked why I want to be a signaller and what I knew about the role and the company.

I had done loads of homework prior to the interview too so was a bit gutted not to be asked!

I was asked about the Safety Vision and Lifesaving Rules, as well as why I want to join Network Rail as a Signaller. :)

Absolutely. I wanted to make sure I had all bases covered regardless.

Hi, I've been absorbing the quality info (and banter) on this thread in the hope that I get to the interview stage and opportunity to confidently convey why I want to become a signaller.

Like most people on here I have applied for a couple of roles; one of which is in London. Whilst the salary isn't everything, it would cost me more to travel to London, so I was hoping someone could tell me if/what the London weighting is?

(I've got a copy of 2020 salary spreadsheet from earlier in the thread, but I can't see it on there).

Congrats to the people who recently got a job offer and keep trying is the theme for anyone who wasn't successful!

Ditto. 3 interviews and never been asked why I want to be a signaller! That doesn’t mean I didn’t have an answer nor wasn’t prepared.

Really handy hints, thanks very much!

With respect to the NTS, has anyone an idea of what the definitive current relevant ones for signaller are? There’s a few variations knocking around like the ones in this thread. There’s also the Network Rail Signaller page which has what look suspiciously like they may be NTS but are not specifically called such. Any guidance gratefully received.

Thank you, it’s for the same job as yours and you seem to have blazed a trail and asked all the relevant questions already!
Extra good luck then!
Yes, I feel I’ve made a pain of myself on here in the run up to my interview lol
However I’m quite sure I wouldn’t have received the job offer without the amazing people on here who generously share their information and time.

Hi Kraken, I believe it is the same job as yourself that I have an "invite to assessment 2 pending" message. Good luck to you!
I have been watching closely what Amanda08 has been asking and it is all really helpful and answered a lot of my questions.
Just going to go back through this thread now for tips for the interview.
Cheers Dean

And all the very best of luck to you too Dean. Given there’s 4 jobs available it’s nice to be in the position of being able to sincerely wish someone good luck when they’re going for the same job as you ☺

Congratulations kraken

Good luck.

as well as the safety vision you could try memorise the life saving rules.
When your on the interview if they ask you what Do you know about the safety vision?
you can Blurt it out then maybe Right away say.
The safety vision is backed up by all these life saving rules.

that way it shows you went above and beyond the minimum which is always a good thing.

Superb, really appreciate the advice Dan, I will be attempting to get the safety and life saving aspects down pat this weekend.

Thinking of becoming a relief signaller I'm resident at the moment just wondering if some reliefs go help me out with Pros & Cons of being relief.
Don't do it for any less than 18%...it's not worth it lol
:p

Pro's: Variety of locations and types of signalling (depending where you are). Plenty of night turns. The ability to refuse a Sunday turn, if you don't want to work.
Con's: Harder to plan your social life, Spare turns - having to sit and wait around (just in case you get fetched in to work).

Im going the other way, I’m fed up of the not knowing and messing about as a single location relief on only 4%.
