Hi Guys,

Just a quick query about Network Rail Test Trains - are these assigned in coaching sets like NL01 etc. or are they random assortments of coaches in a formation?

Thanks for your responses as always.

Somewhere, not in London
They tend to be formed up as formations, PLPR1, PLPR2 etc. Although sometimes coaches will be swapped into formations when operationally advantageous.

I understand, Do you know where/if this information is publically available?
Only reason I ask is because I’m trying to understand whether the Test Train which ran to Cardiff today formed of: 37254, 6263, 72639, 977974 and 9701 was known as an official coaching formation.

That set is PLPR4, 72639 is PLPR4 itself and 977974 is TIC2, although its mainly a brake force and toilet coach at the moment as there is no equipment in use on it.

6263 is one of the MK1 Gen Vans and 9701 is a DBSO, these are interchangeable with any of the others in use

PLPR1 is at least 72631, 977997 and 975091
PLPR2 is at least 5981, 977983 and 977868
PLPR3 is at least 1256, 999550
PLPR4 is at least 72639 and 977974
