Thanks for the heads up! I have registered for job alerts on TFW and could have missed this as these roles arent advertised on their site. I have submitted my cv this morning.

Closing date 14th October. That has to be one of the longest railway recruitment processes ever!

I assume that means they do not have any positions coming up anytime soon.

Hello, any advice on how to write a cv. I’ve been in the same job for 32 years and have no idea on what to put or how to make a cv stand out. Any tips greatly appreciated

I will be very surprised if this stays open until October!

There is a plethora of information on these forums to find out about the entire application process. I suggest you use the search function or click on my name and look through some of my posts as I and many others have covered the subject numerous times.

They are looking for excellent customer service skills, safety conscious and willingness to be flexible to the needs of the business amongst a list of other things that can be found on this forum. Read the job description and answer each question in relation to it. Only pick your best examples to submit. The competition is fierce and only the highest calibre get through.

Be prepared the application process can take from 6 months to anything beyond that. Very rarely is it quicker. I am not sure where you are applying but the bunch along the North West Coast are brilliant with the managers always being helpful. (Was a guard for ATW before now being a trainee driver for TPE).

Good luck and if you have any specific questions I will try to help.

Me too. I think the Chester campaign which I applied for was taken down within a week.

Do TFW do telephone interviews for the next stage. I am sure I read that somewhere but cant remember where.

I have applied for Shrewsbury but was only asked to include my CV. No application form or questions to complete( other than name and address etc.) Does this concur with others so far?

Last time Acorn sent out three screening tick box questions and then a questionnaire
Took a day or two to come through

Hi thanks Plodster ill take that into account :)
Think it was something like I’m over 21 I live within an hour of the chosen depot and one other
Tick yes to all three and the questionnaire was sent shortly after
Will they allow relocation ?
When I applied previously they said at the phone interview that as long as you lived within an hour of the depot on starting with then that was fine and proof of address would be needed at induction if that helps
May be worth a check with others / recruitment

Yep @Plodster is correct they do allow relocation. I moved from London back to my hometown of Holyhead and they were fine with it.

When they themselves did the recruitment they did do an interview before OPC assessments but it has been a few years and it could of changed. I'm not the best to answer this. Perhaps @craigybagel wouldn't mind answering about the sequence they carry out nowadays.

The last I heard it certainly was still the case that the tests were done at the end, after all the interviews rather then before as it is with most TOCs

Hi guys

Applied for the Cardiff one last night through the Acorn link as instructed and it was literally just name, number, email address and attach your CV. Surely this isn’t right? I’d psyched myself up for 45 mins of questionnaires and judgement tests!

Pete87 I think you will get another link in a day or two from Acorn with a separate application form Don’t know but may be the questionnaire used in the previous round with an hour to complete

For this stage of the application process I would advise to copy and paste the questions to google Docs etc and write them there. The websites to fill in the application process are prone to freezing etc. If this happens there is a possibility you will lose everything you worked hard on!

No time limit. It's questions with a box to fill in your answer like a normal application form.

The below was posted yesterday on the other thread for TFW (Chester/Crew)

Hello Rail Forum Members,

Having received enquires from this thread recently I wanted to provide some clarity on previous and current campaigns;

The March campaigns have completed shortlisting - Cardiff has progressed through to interview stage pending assessment centres & Chester is pending interview arrangements to be made in the next few weeks... notifications from us have been sent out to those moving to this stage and to everyone that was unsuccessful in the shortlisting from the March campaigns - including our apologises to those affected due to techology issues.

We have launched this week further recruitment campaigns for trainee roles at; Cardiff, Carmarthen, Chester, Crewe, Holyhead, Llandudno Junction, Machynlleth, Pwllheli and Shrewsbury.

More info here: https://www.acornpeople.com/traindriver

The below change of criteria to previous applicants / 6 month rule has been introduced for these roles;

** If you have been through the interview or assessment process for a Trainee Train Driver role (in any location) within the last six months and were unsuccessful, then please do not re-apply as we're sorry to say that we will not reconsider your application **

If you wish to apply for multiple stations as they are within 1 hour commute then no need to apply to two adverts, as those selections can be made at the next stage. Within 2 business days of applying to an advert you will be sent a link to complete an application form. Queries can be sent to: [email protected] - we will hope to provide continous updates every 2 to 4 weeks on the status of your application.

I will keep an eye on this thread to be able to provide answers to queries that come up where I can.

Many thanks - Pavan, Acorn.

That seemed to be one of the more complicated applications I've done strangely. It wasn't what I was really expecting. Hopefully all goes well. It's nice to know things are moving again.
