Hi guys,

What was the questionnaire like?

It was a while ago but from what I remember it described your work background in more detail and there were a few tick boxes on how to describe yourself. It was timed as well so you only had an hour to complete it. Nothing too in depth though

Hey guys, I'm in the talent pool for a conductor role. I haven't emailed for a update at all this year and figured it would be pointless with Covid, as they will probably have a backlog of candidates. However, just wondering when it might be best to email for an update - just to see where we actually are in the process etc...

If I were you I'd stay on their back. It has been known for some to be forgotten otherwise.

I passed the DMI, just waiting for an assessment date (obviously delayed due to Covid)

Which depot was that for.

Sorry i meant the guys waiting for the Chester. It seems like they did the Cardiff recruitment first and waiting on Chester a bit.

Had the ‘no thanks’
Has anyone heard back from the March recruitment campaign yet. Looks like they are getting back to people this week.
Yeah I had the ‘sifted’ mail yesterday
@Burt807 had previously been told no thanks but received a ‘you are proceeding to the next stage’ e mail saying TFW will be in touch

Unlucky mate. At least there is another recruitment campaign.

I am lucky enough to have moved on the next stage. Does anyone know what the process is now.

My understanding is telephone interview-assessment center-DMI

Hello Rail Forum Members,

Having received enquires from this thread recently I wanted to provide some clarity on previous and current campaigns;

The March campaigns have completed shortlisting - Cardiff has progressed through to interview stage pending assessment centres & Chester is pending interview arrangements to be made in the next few weeks... notifications from us have been sent out to those moving to this stage and to everyone that was unsuccessful in the shortlisting from the March campaigns - including our apologises to those affected due to techology issues.

We have launched this week further recruitment campaigns for trainee roles at; Cardiff, Carmarthen, Chester, Crewe, Holyhead, Llandudno Junction, Machynlleth, Pwllheli and Shrewsbury.

More info here: https://www.acornpeople.com/traindriver

The below change of criteria to previous applicants / 6 month rule has been introduced for these roles;

** If you have been through the interview or assessment process for a Trainee Train Driver role (in any location) within the last six months and were unsuccessful, then please do not re-apply as we're sorry to say that we will not reconsider your application **

If you wish to apply for multiple stations as they are within 1 hour commute then no need to apply to two adverts, as those selections can be made at the next stage. Within 2 business days of applying to an advert you will be sent a link to complete an application form. Queries can be sent to: [email protected] - we will hope to provide continous updates every 2 to 4 weeks on the status of your application.

I will keep an eye on this thread to be able to provide answers to queries that come up where I can.

Many thanks - Pavan, Acorn.

Hi thanks PavanAcorn I have received the application form. How long do we have to complete them as I would like to complete this at the weekend? Many Thanks

Thanks Pavan
So one form will cover three depots within an hour?
Yes but please ensure all depots you select in the form are within 1 hour commute as you may be shortlisted for just one depot later on and those selections cannot be changed during the recruitment process

I suggest you take your time so weekend would be wise - read the job description, research the organisation and role then complete it

every 2 to 4 weeks applications will be reviewed (depending on volume) so no hard timeline at this stage

Hi Pavan,

I had a telephone interview for TFW in February and I haven't heard anything back yet. Does this mean I cannot apply again at the moment.

thank you

If your in a talent pool GET IN CONTACT NOW. I was in a talent pool for guard at HHD close to a year and they started another recruitment campaign. It was only after I reached out did they remember I was in the talent pool and gave me a start date.

Hi mate, just wanted to know if you initially just had a phone interview first?

Then after being successful with that, they arranged the DMI via zoom/Skype etc at a later date?
Cheers.

Hi, so far this has been my journey. Initial application online with Acorn, then received the questionnaire link from Acorn (which I did have to chase up), then a few weeks after invited to a Skype interview. Took around 6 weeks before I heard anything, and told I’d passed the interview and to await a date for assessments.
No mention of a telephone interview at any point.
What depot have you applied for?

Does anyone know how Acorn are managing the initial sift after the online application form/CV section?

Is it done by computer or by hand?

Thanks for that, I appreciate it!

I'm going for Chester.

I was expecting a phone interview so now I know, unless Chester does theirs slightly differently of course, that it's straight into the deep end with the DMI.

Can I ask if they were questions along the lines of, "tell me a time when you've delivered excellent customer service?, or a time you've worked under pressure." Using the S.T.A.R format to answer. Or things like, "why do you want to become a train driver?" "Tell me about the company," etc, etc.

Reason I ask is from what I've been told, the DMI was the more in depth, technical interview and the MMI, which took place after the assessments, was a little more relaxed.

This is obviously different than the MMI is said to be normally, where you need to base your answers on the S.T.A.R format and it's a... bit of a grilling let's say.

Sorry for the essay! Ha.
