The problem I have with leaving details at a pub (or anywhere), is that what you're saying is "Yes please! I'd like an arbitrary 14 day house arrest prison sentence, to be imposed at a moment's notice, any time in the next 21 days".

And my answer to that is - no thanks.

Sadly for that and other reasons I won't be able to go in any pubs for the foreseeable future.

So far government policies have banned me from shops, trains, buses, pubs and restaurants. I'm doing rather well.

Sounds like you would be better taking the chance as you don't seem to be getting out much. Go and have a pint.

In my experience things have relaxed and fewer pubs are insisting on contact details now. If all else fails, give a false number - job done.

I’m not going to let a misguided regulation stop me enjoying life. If a venue I visit becomes identified as a source of an outbreak I will take heed and act accordingly. I don’t need track and trace for that.

Sorry but if someone want to beat me up about providing a false number, I have no moral qualms about doing so and managing my own affairs accordingly should I visit a venue that is affected or advising the venue if I get infected.

Visited the Ship in Weybourne the Sunday before last. Outside the door was a member of staff enquiring if you were eating or just drinking. They then gave you directions to follow depending on your answer. I was just their for a pint so went straight to the bar, using the hand sanitiser at the door. Bar staff asked me to sign in, sanitise hands again and took my order. Paid contactless and my pint was placed at the far end of the bar to encourage me to follow the one way system. I exited the bar and sat at a freshly sanitised outside table. All in all a simple but effective system to follow. Everyone seemed to be abiding by the rules so felt quite safe and enjoyed my pint to boot.

If we take that to it's logical conclusion, there's be no point you contacting the venue. If everyone gives false numbers then they won't be able to contact them anyway!
You might as well just give no number.

FWIW I don't hand over my personal data when o go to the pub.

I frequent a very small number of pubs, but fairly frequently. If any of them are shut down due an outbreak, I will deal with it - I don’t need track and trace for that. And if I were to test positive, I would inform those pubs I had been in - again, on that basis track and trace is unnecessary. Bluntly though, if I have been in a venue that has an outbreak and yet I still feel fine, I am not going to lockdown myself unless I start to have symptoms. Again, sorry to anyone I offend but I have no qualms in taking this view, I have and will only provide false contact details, and I am 100% sure I am not alone in my views.

I don't think you are expected to isolate if you've been a pub where there's been an outbreak, are you?

Well, I'm glad I don't own a pub as you would be barred permanently for this incredibly stubborn, inconsiderate approach.

Please, please play along. It's for everyone's good. It's not a conspiracy and it's not all out to get you.

:(

You'd be contacted, and the tracers would establish if you had come within 2m for more than 15 minutes of someone affected, or within 1m for any period of time (beyond just walking past), and in that case you would. Otherwise you'd be warned and asked to watch out for symptoms, which is probably going to influence people ensuring they get a test if they sort of suspect symptoms.

I'm getting thoroughly bored of refuseniks. They're probably the same people who get into nonsensical arguments with Police Officers (something which, oddly, has never happened to me).

If you did, you wouldn’t know because contact details aren’t verified. No point in you trying to take the moral high ground - I am not alone....

Not a chance. If I am totally locked down I cannot work, I cannot earn money to live on. No way am I risking that. It’s all very well you preaching from your nice, sheltered, furloughed world but it is not reality for many. Again, I am not alone...

I’m not a refusenik, unless you count I am refusing to go in pubs because of this nonsense. My stance harms nobody.

No, that's a perfectly valid choice either now or at any other time, going to the pub isn't compulsory. I was referring to those who would give a false name or phone number when asked to provide one.

Then you need to be very careful not to come within 2m of someone who may be infected. This would probably mean not visiting a pub indoors due to the high risk, rather than lying about your details to avoid being traced.

I am not on furlough by the way, but I am a home worker.

It poses a higher risk of being subject to a contact traced 14 day isolation period, which the poster is concerned about. The correct way to avoid this is to manage your behaviour with regard to pubs, not to give false details.
I take the point but to my knowledge not one pub has done this. I could be wrong and happy to be put right.

Well so far I think about 5 or 6 pubs have had to close for a couple of days due to one of their customers having subsequently tested positive for the virus.

There are over 47,000 pubs in the UK.

I'd say the chances of you being in a pub at the same time as someone who subsequently tested positive for the virus are pretty remote so let's all stop being scared of our own shadows and start having social lives again!

Saw that the cafe in Morrison's was open again and virtually empty - decided to have my first drink in a cafe or pub for four months. Self-service tea, paid cash (down to a £1, Morrison's cafes are passing on the temporary VAT cut unlike many), took tray to a table many metres from other customers. Surprised a couple of minutes later to be interrupted by the assistant asking me to complete a track/trace form. Considered not doing so, but in the end, with some reluctance, did so with biro supplied, and left it at the table. TBH, if I go there again I shall be much more reluctant to repeat the exercise.

That makes sense.

But that doesn't. If received given false details, what's the point in you telling the venue? They can't pass the message on.

There were. The figure for 2020 is just over 40,000 pubs. Though it is noted that the decline has slowed despite the enforced closure in March. It still means that pubs are closing at a rate of nine per week. So yes, that probably is a reason to support your local pub and help them to help the economy and stimulate employment.

In Carlisle, 3 pubs have closed due to people having tested positive a few days after visiting and contact tracing has been used I believe.

We’ve had many reminders put out from our health board to not go across the border if at all possible (higher prevalence) to “keep our region and Scotland safe”.

I would, if doing so did not put me at risk of a mandatory 14 day prison sentence. Due to that - I’m afraid, for me, they may as well all close.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if you get called from a test and trace, you won’t be told to isolate for 14 days, you’ll simply book a test, get tested, and if it comes back negative you could be back out within 12-24 hours. You’ll only have a 14 day quarantine if you test positive (which can only happen once from what we know), so I wouldn’t worry too much about this!

Yes, it's wrong. You can only have a test if symptomatic as they're not felt reliable enough if not. If asymptomatic it's 14 days house arrest.

What a farce. Surely if you are asymptomatic, have a test and it comes back negative you must be extremely unlikely to be passing it on?
I mean if a swab shoved up your snozzer and down the back of your throat doesn't come out covered in virus, you're hardly going to be shedding virus all over the place are you?

If this is the case, if I was told to self isolate, I think I'd be saying "oh yes, cough, cough, I do feel a bit hot cough actually. Cough cough. Could you book me in for a cough test please?"
Assuming it can't back negative I'd resume my normal activities.

Someone better tell Jersey to shut their border again. You can go there and if you agree to be tested they won't make you self isolate (assuming the test comes back negative).

Just ridiculous. They wouldn't get my custom.

From what I've seen, social distancing does not happen behind the counter or in the kitchen.
We went to Southwold at the weekend. Bought some fish and chips from the place just down from the Swan hotel. Usual procedure to queue and place order, only 1 customer in shop at a time with some nautical themed obstacles to prevent you getting too close to the counter. Then as usual wait in the courtyard outside for your order to be called. It's only a small courtyard and a very busy establishment, so not for the paranoid. There were 6 staff working there. Zero chance of them staying 2m apart. Other than 1 person in the shop at a time, it was completely normal.
Fish and chips were excellent. Fortunately my veggie wife didn't notice the sign saying they are cooked in beef dripping, but she did comment on the loveliness of the chips  .

We were in there tonight, the beef dripping is that their secret do you think?

Putting aside the emotive language, what is arbitrary about it?

Whether you agree with the idea of isolating potential infectees or not, there is a logic to it, surely?
