I think we are a bit confused here. After:

is Magdalen Green where we can indeed reverse - no need to go on to Dundee West. Dundee Ward Road was on the harbour branch which I don't think was connected to the Dundee & Perth, I will check.

Update: I can't find a map early enough to show whether the D&NR and the D&PR connected at their crossing point near Dundee West, the D&NR harbour branch being closed and lifted in 1861. It seems likely that they did, maybe just via a siding connection near the level crossing. The D&PR leased the D&NR before the former even opened, and very shortly after the D&PR opened the D&NR was converted from its original 4' 6'' gauge to standard. However that would not have been our route, since the preamble suggests that the later line alignment should be used.

Gartsherrie

Having delved into some RAILSCOT information, it would appear that station was not on the Caledonian Railway main line, but on the Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway, which we do not use on this particular journey.

If you recall, the station was put forward to the adjudicational editorial panel at Wikipedia when last this matter arose and their view was that under no circumstances would they add Gartsherrie to their Caledonian Railway main line template, stating that it was their view that the station proper was a station of the Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway.

I did include Gartsherrie with my fingers crossed. However there is secondary evidence of the existence of a Gartsherrie station on the Monkland & Kirkintilloch Railway, which of course Caledonian trains used between Garnqueen and Gartsherrie:

a) The Wikipedia entry for the M&KR records a Gartsherrie (M&KR) station, open from 1831 to 1851, and

b) the Railscot entry for the Gartsherrie station on the Glasgow, Garnkirk & Coatbridge notes that:

"at first the station operated with the Gartsherrie [M and K] station, just to the east on the parallel Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway, but this closed in 1849".

I think the Wikipedia panel should perhaps be asked to consider the matter again.
