A couple of very interesting options for Transdev at the Otley end, which could expand their current airport network or have a punt at a rival.

I'd like to remind everyone that we should be using language suitable for a family audience. Thanks

As reported in the First West Yorkshire thread, Metro are reporting that Transdev are to take over running the 784 between Skipton and Otley.

Confirmation.

We’re spreading our wings further. The 784 Skipton-Ilkley-Otley joins the Transdev family from 4 October.

Times, fares and route all confirmed next week at http://transdevbus.co.uk

I hadn't even clocked that the X84 had been split at Otley! Was it a Covid thing or a First-are-rubbish thing?

The X84 continued to run to Ilkley throughout Covid. But a significant number of passengers from Skipton travel through to Otley, with few beyond, so the 784 overlapped with the X84 (which has only run once an hour as far as Ilkley since March). As the X84 did pre-Covid the 784 runs only a couple of minutes off from a 62 between Ilkley and Addingham.

Makes sense, no matter how nice the bus you wouldn't go Skipton-Leeds on the X84.

Was the 784 split brought in before Covid or as a result of it? I'd never clocked that the X84 had been split in that way, but I've not been paying attention to West Yorkshire for a year or so.

X84 stopped running beyond Ilkley early on once COVID kicked off and has never resumed the service to Skipton. 784 launched 12 July.

I had a friend who used to do Addingham to North Leeds when I used to meet him for a drink. It saved him a 10 minute walk at the Leeds end and a wait in Ilkley and ended up being about 10 minutes slower.

People catch the 60 all the way from Keighley to Leeds - this is no faster.

That's the issue. End to end, most would get the train but with your Addingham example, there are some "internal" flows. As long as the X84 still goes to Ilkley, I guess that covers most journeys but obviously, not your mate. Long standing service IIRC.

Could anything be gained from a passenger or operational perspective if they extend the Pendle Wizz to cover the 784? More through journeys of course but do you think many people would make use of the journeys or would it be a wasted effort?

Very limited use I’d suggest. Skipton is much more a destination town serving the hinterland.

There is also a low bridge on the 784 route. They changed it from the former X84 route due to either congestion, or Covid road closures or something along those lines

Covid Related road closures of Skipton High Street on market days were a driver for single deckers as Otley Road has a 4.1m railway bridge for the Rhylstone branch.

The timetable looks to start and end at the Otley end, so that would make sense

Also they've depicted grey vehicles on the twitter images etc rather than green buses

I spotted the grey vehicles on twitter either.

Seem like they will use prive of the north livered Versa's/B7's from Idle

Although they have just cut and pasted the First timetable for now. I'm hoping they can stimulate demand and increase the hours of operation which have been falling for years. One of the problems for many years was the lack of any day or season ticket being valid on the 784 within North Yorkshire (even when a First West Yorkshire day ticket was also valid throughout Greater Manchester).

The service gives up 90 minutes earlier than it did before lockdown and starts around half an hour later.

I’m assuming that shortage is due to the 08 plate Wright deckers being moved to another part of the business? Any idea what will come in to cover for the long term?

Captain Tom's bus has moved to Idle, apparently now in Flyer branding. I'm guessing this is is to allow the PotN's to run exclusively on the 784

Looks like 6 have come over according to Alex Hornby's Twitter.
and stated as being for school services. All of the stored Scanias that remained have been reinstated at Rosso as well meaning that their is now only one bus stored for reuse; the ex National West Mids B7TL that has never entered service

Do we know why Blackpool can spare them? Seem fairly modern to be reserve - is it just due to service reductions?
Looking at the fleet list they are the oldest service vehicles in the fleet. The Blackpool transport website says there are running a near normal service levels.

Mighty impressive then.

How are they so well capitalised? It's not an area known for its wealth or is that the secret to running a popular and thus profitable bus service?

I'm not suggesting bad play nor trying to slag off Blackpool - I don't know the region.
