Can't be used with railcards, groupsave etc, as per usual

I bought a small rucksack for £2.49 to take advantage of this offer; you get a QR code on your receipt which, when scanned, takes you to this link;

https://www.lner.co.uk/Decaut2020store

Assuming the link isn't specific to me, which i doubt very much, you should be able to use it to get 30% off LNER tickets without needing to make a purchase at Decathlon.

Assuming this thread isn't just for rail offers, I just thought I'd mention Travelodge are currently running a "pay for one night, get the next night free" offer for stays between 1 August and 30 November. Book by 24 July. Currently plenty of availability too; I managed to get 2 nights in Norwich in August for £30 to go exploring the Norfolk branches!

I booked several of these, but some may not now happen due to lockdown areas.

I wonder if Travelodge will refund, even though they were at Saver Rate, if they can’t honour the bookings due to the new restrictions.

Would definitely be interesting to find out as I've refrained from booking some trips in fear of losing money if unable to cancel.

Its safest to book on a rate that lets you cancel for free and pay when you make the visit. If you prepay with a rate that cannot be cancelled, you might find that they let you rebook if there is a lockdown, or if you cannot travel for health reasons. However, that might be relying on their goodwill. If the company has run out of money, they might not let you rebook.

If you prepay for a stay, then use a credit card, or get travel insurance. Otherwise if the company goes bust before the stay, you will be a creditor and you might not get your money back.

Does anyone get travel insurance for a two night stay in a cheap B&B or a Travelodge? Would annual policies that you get with your bank account even cover such things?

You need to check the terms and conditions for whether a policy will cover your trip. I remember newspaper stories at the start of the pandemic, saying that a lot of cheap travel insurance policies would not pay out for cancelling a trip because of the pandemic.

I have bought travel insurance for a 2 day trip from www.moneysupermarket.com
It only cost about a pound. I did it to get 2-for-1 cinema tickets with Meerkat Movies for a year.

Why would you get Meerkat Movies Cinema Tickets from moneysupermarket when it is compare the market the meerkats advertise. Sounds more like Bull to me.

I paid a quid for a travel insurance policy, to get some free cinema tickets. Sorry if I got the wrong comparison shopping site.

Yes I agree, however I usually just book the saver rate, if in the unlikely event I lose it then so be it. If there was a trip I specifically wanted to do at the moment, however, I would definitely consider a cancellable option.

Can't say it's the same in every case, but a group of us had booked to go to Scarborough for the 'end of season' footy back in April. The person making the booking paid saver rate - it was booked prior to any travel restrictions/lockdown/temporary closures. Travelodge did offer alternative bookings or a refund if we chose.

I see Lner are on both my credit card offers with American Express and also my current account (RBS Rewards) as offering 5% cashback. Needless to say I've saved the offer to my card. It looks like it includes all spend on the website but could anyone tell me whether it'd work with the app?

If it's not clear in the T&Cs it'd probably be best contacting the reward providers, otherwise the only way to find out is for someone eligible for the offers to make a transaction on the app and risk not getting the cashback.

An update :I booked tomorrow's tickets for work via the LNER app (for travel on TPE) and got an email saying from Amex confirming I've used the offer for the first time. So presumably the app works too.

The AmEx cashback offers aren't like (say) Quidco cashback; it's not a cookie-based affiliate tracking mechanism behind the scenes.

Instead, it's a simple and automatic reconciliation of the offer-registered card when it's charged through (in this case) LNER's merchant account.

The only time that it wouldn't reconcile properly is, in certain circumstances, when using the registered card through a third-party such as PayPal. You'll often find this referred to in the terms and conditions of the offer as using a 'payment aggregator'.

My railcard has expired and I am looking to renew it this week or next. I was hoping to use my Clubcard points to take of advantage of their offer. Although unfortunately I don't have enough for a voucher of the required amount. Would anyone know of any way I can get hold of some more without spending a fortune?

Alternatively, if any of you have points to cash out you aren't using, I don't mind buying voucher codes from one of you?

Doesn't Clubcard let you use points for a part purchase, making the rest up with cash at full price? (So if you have £2.50 worth of points, you get a £7.50 (3 X £2.50) voucher, but then have to pay the remaining £22.50 for the Railcard on your debit card.)

Are you sure that works across different names and addresses?
I believe it does work because once you exchange the Clubcard points into a voucher, you can give the code to anyone to use like a gift card. Pop it in just a promotional code box on the payment page and presto.

I have let my sister use my points before but that was to buy something different.

Yes it does although I only have about £1.50 in points left. The rest have been used up on birthday and Christmas presents. I could use them and pay with my debit card although feels a little pointless lol. I haven’t been shopping in Tesco as much due to the pandemic so don’t collect as many as I used to.

I barely got any use out of my last railcard, so I would rather buy a voucher from someone else who has enough points to try and make a saving

Thanks for the heads up! The LNER 5% offer expired on Amex some time ago, although continued until recently with my RBS bank account. Will make a point of installing the Avanti app (presume the app works for this too, it did with LNER).

Edit: It appears the app is eligible too. Yay!

So re the AMEX offer I've saved it to my card, however it changes to C2C London once the transaction has been fully posted. So far I've yet to see any cashback aware it can take a few days but usually doesn't. I'll see what happens but any idea what to do about this?

Does anybody have the link to this golden ticket for a year competition.

I know there's a thread about it somewhere, but I can't seem to find it in the sub-forums one would expect to find it.
