It’s something to do with temporary timetable changes during the Kings Cross approach works, reduced platforms at Kings Cross so diagrams and services have been rearranged. I read it in a forum somewhere.Anyone have any useful information on this?
Just this evening a Thameslink Class 700 appeared at Kings Lynn?
New train coming to the Kings Lynn - Kings Cross route
Was it on test or in service?Anyone have any useful information on this?

I don’t believe it’s permanent, it’s just for a few weeks, (7 or 8 maybe), during the works. It’s more to do with interworking the trains between GN and TL at the Kings Cross end of the route.Could this be a more common thing given the recent platform extensions on the route to allow 8 car running at all stations?
Would of course still be limited to reduced length units or SDO.

Class 700 were also tested on the route on 4th November, for the short term purpose I’ve already mentioned. It’s not related to the platform extension project which is for normal running of 8 car GN services,i did wonder this
im asking as it had no passengers on but lots of staff, similar to when they did test runs of the new 8 car trains late last year
it stayed at KL for a couple of hours and then returned to Cambridge sidings around 930pm
Unless I’m very much mistaken, there are no plans to run Class 700s to Kings Lynn in regular service.
There's been Thameslink FL/RL stop boards at at least Ely ever since 700s were introduced.
IIRC 700s used to appear on the Ely semifast "Great Northern" services after the timetable meltdown in 2018.
True, but I was inferring Thameslink/Great Northern services post-KGX.There are such plans during the KX works during the spring. A handful of 700/0 trips per day, which is largely due to the short turnarounds at KX.
There’s been earlier discussions about this in other threads somewhere, it’s why 700s have been see in Kings Lynn a few months back:An interesting quirk of the Platform 7-11 only timetable is 1Txx (King's Lynn/Ely) and 2Cxx (Cambridge/Royston/Letchworth stoppers) cross-forming each other at King's Cross to save a platform. I wonder if this means 700s wandering anywhere exotic, or whether there's enough 387s to cover everything (as they're effectively 8-car limited by Platforms 9-11)?

There are not quite enough 387s to cover everything, there are approximately 3 700s and 12 pairs of 387s on the interworked diagrams. As for exotic workings the 16:21 Cambridge to Kings Lynn and 17:16 Kings Lynn to Cambridge are booked for a 700 on weekdays, there's also a return from Kings Cross to Lynn on a Saturday which is a 700 (the times of which I can't remember off the top of my head!)An interesting quirk of the Platform 7-11 only timetable is 1Txx (King's Lynn/Ely) and 2Cxx (Cambridge/Royston/Letchworth stoppers) cross-forming each other at King's Cross to save a platform. First day for the 700 to KLN was yesterday. 700054 was seen at Downham Market.
