I seriously think I have a few weeks left in me before I just go completely postal. I mean, quit the job, sack off the mortgage, and just start burning and smashing things up until I'm locked up. Something like that.

This isn't a joke, I seriously cannot keep up with this. I'm normally a high performer and this lockdown nonsense has reduced me into a gibbering pile of nonsense - I can feel my cognitive ability declining by the day.

I don't really have anything more to say to be honest. Posting this here because unlike other forums there seem to be a few sane people left.

Someone needs to see this before it just happens completely out of the blue. If lockdowns don't end soon I'm going to be locked up.

According to some of the "I'm alright Jack" posters on here, lockdowns are just a minor inconvenience
because the public had it far worse during World War II, but they are so far removed from the real world
in their comfortably off, middle class bubbles that just can't (or refuse to) see that there is about to be a
mental health pandemic almost as bad as the Covid one. :frown:

First thing to do - get yourself signed up to the private support group ASAP:

Loads of people on there who are also at the end of their tether who will be able to offer advice and support.

Thanks for the link, Freightmaster. I somehow didn't notice this before. I've posted.

I think that a lot of people whose life currently involves a high level of social interaction don't quite realise that some of us are essentially in solitary confinement with the exception of cashiers in shops and pixels.

The level of decline that this situation has resulted in for me is leaving me thinking that I won't be in control of my own actions soon. I just want them to know that this is a thing before everything kicks off because I can't be the only one.

This is a very testing time and I think a lot of people have underestimated the importance of mental (as well as physical) well-being for a long time now.

Please talk to someone (I'm happy to give you a call myself), through whatever means benefits you, be it text communication, voice or in person (you are allowed to exercise with one other person or socialise with another person/household as applicable under the relevant legislation for forming a "bubble" and there is no distance limit on forming bubbles).

I am resigned to the fact that the next 3-4 weeks at least are going to be absolutely rubbish but I am extremely optimistic about how things will improve drastically at some point in March (it's not a matter of if, but when in March, be it early, middle or late March). What helped me was that I realised the gravity of the situation a long time ago and so I was slowly able to accept how terrible this situation is, as well as conducting a lot of research, but that's not necessarily useful for everyone. I found that by researching I was able to learn to ignore fearmongering stories and also avoid a situation of yo-yoing emotions when reading different media stories. Then what really helped was going for a walk, whether it's been with one other person or in a larger group (as was allowed in the Summer). I think talking with people about frustrations definitely helps. It is important to be able to express concerns and frustrations to people who will listen. But it's also impossible to be able to think positively too.
....I can't be the only one.
You certainly aren't!

You aren't alone mate. Things are going to get a lot better in the near future, over the next few month, despite what the doom mongers are trying to push on social media. Always there for anyone who needs a chat!

I don't disagree at at all, I can manage a little longer, but that's on the provision that we see some substantial normality returned soon after groups 1-4 have been vaccinated, and rapid progress onwards from that.

I agree. This next month or so is worth it as we have a real chance of avoiding the worst outcomes.

But beyond that - I do not care about "variants" one jot. If a "variant" escapes the vaccination, then I'm sorry, but the vulnerable will have to shoulder the burden from then on.

I have tolerated one year of abuse, that is my limit. Beyond that, I will be seeking some form of redress for what is becoming a blatant redistribution of life.

Take no notice of the doom merchants who claim the vaccines won't work with the variants. They will succeed in keeping people out of hospital. We're aiming to reduce deaths by giving the vaccines, not cure the common cold. The media seen to have forgotten this, but fortunately the people who ultimately make the decisions haven't.

I get where you are coming from. Going out to work is just about the only thing keeping me going. For any single people working at home, this must be a nightmare. If you live alone then I think you're allowed to meet up with another person or family. If you're not already doing that, I'd recommend it. Better than losing the plot.

As a single person you can form a support bubble with one other household. You can visit that household (and they can visit you), stay overnight and generally interact with them as though you are a member of that household. You can switch bubbles but you have to allow 10 clear days between doing so. You can also travel to meet with your support bubble, there are no limits on how far or how often you can travel to meet with them.

You are also allowed to meet outside with one person outside for exercise. You can travel to meet that person (although such travel should be reasonable, for example if you live in Birmingham and they live in Manchester travelling to Norwich to meet them for exercise would probably not be reasonable)

I'm already not doing any of that nonsense, "support bubbles" are a dystopian meme IMO.

This sort of chat frankly pushes me further towards snapping, total lack of understanding.

This isn't some sort of joke, I'm not going to be "fixed" by a walk in the park, I'm getting to the point at which I demand my life back from those that have stolen it for a year and counting.

None of this is "reasonable".

If you are in North London then I do a walk most days from Cheshunt station around the Lea Valley Park (an hour or so). If you wanted to talk to another human on a wander you are more than welcome to join me.

Happy to chat all things under the Sun. No obligations to be friends forever and no offence easily taken!

Of course a walk in the park is not going to suddenly "fix" all of this.

There is nothing that anyone on here, or anywhere else for that matter, can say that is suddenly going to make everything OK.

However, talking to someone and venting your frustrations to another person may help you cope in the meantime.

It can help to know that other people are going through the same things as you, and are having the same feelings.

I live on my own, and I know that lockd.own can be a very lonely experience.

The news on the effectiveness of the vaccines is good, and it is only a few weeks until the government announces a roadmap out of the lockdown. Try to hang on until the roadmap is announced, because that will give you much more definite hope that you will be able to live your life as you did before anyone had ever heard of COVID-19.

I appreciate your posts and hope you are all well.

"Coping" is, of course, what we've been doing for a year.

In a relationship with an abuser (the actions of not only this government, but of _every single person_ who is complicit in this, are none other than psychological abuse), there comes a time at which there's no sense in kicking the can down the road any more. It's time to end the relationship.

For absolute clarity's sake - a month or two more with no narrative change, and that's it. Limit reached, gloves off, I'll take a prison sentence over being an accomplice to this lunacy.

A full return of our fundamental freedoms and rights _must_ (I really cannot stress this point enough) happen by Summer this year. There is no alternative for me. If that means that society deems me unworthy of participation - so be it.

I post not as a 'cry for help', to ask for advice, neither to threaten or blackmail. Simply as a factual statement for anyone who reads this to understand how close to the limit I along with countless others are. There will be repercussions for others if we are allowed to reach our mental breaking point, I urge those who have the ability to to take heed of this.

There are two separate issues here (though very much related)

The first is that the lockdown is going to continue until at least 1st March and probably 8th March. While I completely sympathise with your views and indeed I agree with you, my brain has accepted this undeniable fact. I have accepted the heavy restrictions for the next 4-5 weeks and have got various things to do and set various targets of things to achieve in that timeframe.

I would definitely...

If you are in North London then I do a walk most days from Cheshunt station around the Lea Valley Park (an hour or so). If you wanted to talk to another human on a wander you are more than welcome to join me.

...consider taking up this offer!

And even if you are not in North London but elsewhere in London, there is no distance limit on the bubble; it is your choice but if it was me I'd be doing it.

I agree bubbles (and before that the rule of 6) are a poor alternative but I have found making use of them has been incredibily benefitial to my mental health and got me motivated to go on some very long walks which have been great; I have walked hundreds of miles in the past 11 months. While I would have wanted things to be more normal, I am very glad I made the most of the situation.

The second issue is

A full re-opening _must_ (I reall, or any of those thingsy cannot stress this point enough) happen by Summer this year.
I completely agree and I am absolutely confident that it will.

It is my strong belief we will go into a T3 type situation at some point in March (hopefully from 1st March; more realistically from 8th March; very pessimistically by end of March at the absolute latest if lots of things go wrong) and most places will enter T2 at some point during April. Beyond that it gets harder to predict as there are too many variables but I am certain that by the Summer things will be pretty normal.

In fact last Summer felt relatively normal for me; the rule of 6 was legally a rule of 30 for a period of time, and there were loads of things we were able to do which I made full use of. I even managed to get abroad a few times!

In the meantime please do consider joining someone for a walk; I have found this really beneficial in the short term while remaining optimistic about the longer term.

I hope this helps!

There are many people who are just about coping with life under lockdown.

But the reason they are just about coping is because they expect the restrictions to be temporary.

If you were to tell people that, despite being vaccinated, we have to live with the current level of restrictions because <insert excuse of your choice>, then some people would have a mental breakdown, and others would simply say "%&*! you, I'm not doing this any more", and start to disobey the rules.

Over time, civil disobedience (just ignoring the rules) would turn into civil unrest (actively protesting against the rules) and we have seen this happen most recently in The Netherlands.

So yes, everyone does have their limit as to how much longer they can cope with the current situation, and everyone will react differently if that limit is breached.

I agree that last summer wasn't too bad although the different rules, and timing thereof, in Wales and England didn't help. I wish I'd bitten the bullet and gone abroad last summer but I don't cope well with heat and most of the trains I ride on don't have air con. That said I did survive going on 317s in August during the 35 degree heatwave!

You are 100% correct to be angry and frustrated and finding this difficult. You should be!

Your analogy to domestic abuse in our treatment by the government is also spot-on. It is a point I've made here multiple times - once you see it, it is obvious, and all the actions we see fit very closely into that model.

Personally, I think we need more constructive resistance. The gym owners in Liverpool were an excellent example, forcing the government to back down. It would be good if we could all channel our energy and frustration into similar positive actions.

So just to clarify you are saying that you feel at this point that a 'lockdown' where you can still leave the house is causing you to get to the point where you will undertake criminal activities such as arson, which will cause you to be locked in a room potentially 12 feet by 8 feet for potentially 23 hours out of 24, yet you feel that you are unable to cope with being able to leave your current abode for shopping, work, exercise. I know which version of being 'locked' up I would prefer hand over fist.... hint, it is not the second option

Yes, prolonged lockdowns are going to cause me to have a psychotic episode.

I'm already very close to being there as you can tell from my post. No previous mental health conditions.

The meaning of "criminality" has been warped by this nonsense. I have probably performed 500 illegal acts over the last year such as "existing indoors with two other people".

If you continue to torture us, some of us will snap.

You obviously have no understanding/empathy for someone whose mental health has clearly been obliterated by the current lockdown. :s
