Basically what it says on the tin. I was considering making this thread about folks' favourite 37 livery/liveries to begin with, but seeing as 56s tend to get overlooked in general (unfairly or otherwise), I thought I'd cast this light on them first. Plus 56s are among my favourite diesel locos period, so no bias at all on my part. ;)

My top 4, in no particular order (all linked photos by Martin Loader).

BR Blue

Loadhaul

Trainload Grey with 'Coal' sector markings

EWS Red/Gold

I know I might cop a bit of flak for the Loadhaul and EWS choices, but hey-ho lol I shall turn the thread over to the rest of you; should be a interesting thread (or a short-lived one lol).

Load Haul, definitely. I don't recall whether 56s carried the version with the 'italic' yellow end. I hope so, as that was my preferred version as it was so bold and unlike anything seen before.

I’m a bit of a fan of the original Railfreight liveried ones myself. I think if I was going to get a model of one I’d go for that livery.
Ah, I lost myself in paint wibble for a moment there and it was lovely, sigh...

I really don’t understand the liking of Loadhaul. The Mainline Freight blue was far better of the shadow freight companies.

As for 56s, either large logo blue (suits them like it suited the 50s) or Coal sector triple grey.

Differing tastes, I suppose. While I can't deny that Mainline was a smart livery, LH has always had the edge in my book.

mainline was a excellent livery always wondered what a 56 would look like in that livery, looked good on a 37 58 and 60.

I'm not the biggest fan of 56s (I don't dislike them, though - just never paid much attention to them), so I'll just through this into the thread:

They're Hornby models of a real Class 56 livery (from Hungary). Photo (c) Olivia's Trains.

Definitely large logo blue.
I disliked the orange / yellow transition of the Loadhaul livery - it always struck me as an amateurish mess.
