Cross Country ECS moves

Hi all, I've been on realtime trains recently and I've noticed that XC are running empty voyagers between Leeds and Sheffield then from Sheffield to York. Today was the 5Z02 from Leeds to Sheffield operated with 220032. Does anyone know the reason for this i was thinking driver training although I'm not too sure. If anyone does know or has any ideas please comment below cheers all.

They did one yesterday, which gave us/me the sight of a 4-car Voyager on P17 at Leeds. Looking at the route taken I'm guessing at training or refreshers for diversions, as the Leeds departure took up the Lincoln Semi-Fast path out to Normanton via the Altofts Curve, then round the back of Kirkgate to Fitzwilliam and Doncaster, thence to Sheffield. That's not a normal run. Haven't seen one run through the back of Castleford yet though.

Route Refreshing/Learning.

They have been running them all over the network.

I'd imagine it's because the Newcastle to south coast services aren't running, which are the only ones that go via Doncaster between Sheffield and York, so they need to cover this route so they can reintroduce them after Covid if needs be.

Edit: actually there are still some services running this way so probably ignore this hypothesis

No, you were probably right. Its down to about 1/3rd of the service (4 services one way, 3 the other) and with 3 traincrew depots who sign it there's a chance 1 of them doesn't have diagrammed work and this is the solution
