Hello :)
I've been surfing the interwebs recently and on my travels I've found quite a few layouts of modern-image layouts. A lot of these seem to focus on smaller locations, and mainly freight yards, but there are a few which are based on large stations such as Crewe or London Marylebone. This sort of layout really interests me as it's not often that you see large-scale modern-image layouts: does anyone on here model a large modern station (real or fictional), or know of anyone else who does?

Probably my layout

On the RM web someone is working on building Glasgow Queen Street
Glasgow Queen Street - Modelling real locations - RMweb

Also pair from exhibitions which the latter gave me the idea of having a roof on my station.
Alderford - World Of Railways (world-of-railways.co.uk)

No idea of the name but it was at Stafford 2019

It does depend on your definition of large, but the Dale End Lane layout or the station in @43055 and @Jaz avalley 's layouts would seem to fit that description
Oh yes - completely forgot about both of those. Excellent layouts: exactly the sort of thing I'm on about. :)

Probably my layout
Yes - sorry for forgetting about yours! Definitely the type of modern image thing I'm interested in.

I've just had a quick look through those and they both seem really cool. The Glasgow Queen Street one reminds me of an 00 gauge Kings Cross I saw a while ago. The canopy over the end of the platforms makes me wonder if I could do something similar for one of the stations on my layout.

Again - a really cool layout :D The canopy over the very end of the platform reminds me of Penzance (which a lot of layouts seem to get compared to I realise!). That trackwork looks bespoke too - lots of work must have gone into it, even if it's not hand-made.

God I love a terminus!

Even Coryton? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coryton_railway_station ;)

Up the creek
You could always chose a couple of former GWR stations that were the main ones in their cities or large towns. Then you would be Modelling Major Generals.

Kalborough is 4 foot 4 in deep and about 20 feet although the whole layout including Goathland and 2 other train stations and scenic areas is 44 foot long by 11 foot 4 wide as in 4ft 4in both sides and a centre isle

Also reminds me of the Liverpool Lime Street layout. I would say your larger station is the best place for a roof as it gives more space to work. The roof on my layout is a kit which I originally had 4 of. Due to the center road it meant that the platforms were wider than the kit was designed for (2 tracks). So to make it longer I took off one end on three and used the end of the 4th section to lengthen them to the width I required (2 extra sections on the right of the picture). To hold the pillars in place two plastic 'beams' were added in line with the edge of platform 3 and the middle of platform 1/2.

Penzance is the inspiration for most of my layout

New Junction (former layout). Based around the north east with a station section and scenic section.

There’s some great railways that you’ve linked to.
Your canopy has a really interesting look to it the way you’ve done it. It kind of looks like a modern day Waterloo International vs Penzance. As if NR had replaced it in a modern style.

I recall a few years ago seeing a model of the western end of Edinburgh Waverley, which was quite fantastic. It was in one or two of the model magazines, but a quick check through my papers hasn't unearthed the detail.

Waverley West is the one I think:

That looks really good @43055 - I've been trying to work out how to add a canopy to one of my stations today so that's interesting to see how you've done it.

Blimey @Jaz avalley - that's an amazing amount of space! So much brilliant scenery in there too.

^^^^^^ agreed that is a cracking model and a great space.

If I had the space, I’d love to build a modern day version of Manchester Central, turning the current building back in to a 6-platform station, surrounded by 21st century skyscrapers. Platforms 8 & 9 can’t be recreated based on the current building. The trains I’d run would be 1990-2020 era units, with intercity to St. Pancras & Kings Cross. I suspect the modern day Manchester Central would have become a terminus for Welsh, Liverpool and possibly Scotland services.

Can you do part of the station say a half to a third of one side ?
