Hi all,

Can anyone confirm if the new section of track from Platform 1 to Humberstone Road sidings is now in use? Open Train Times Map still shows the old layout, however it shows a proceed aspect for both platforms 1 and 2 simultaneously, which makes me believe it is in use?

Also, the awfully slow approach on the ‘down’ line (northbound) has finally been upgraded from 15mph to 35mph freight and 40mph pax trains for platform 2. Platform 1 I believe it is 30mph for both pax and freight trains.

Been in use quite quite a number of weeks now. Watched a freightliner use it last week.
But it can only be used when the x/c Brum turnback is not there. Timing is everything.

Presumably that will save a few seconds for passenger arivals, what 15 - 20?

But will be of far greater value for pathing freight through the station and out towards Syston. Anyone got any idea of the savings?

I've certainly noticed in recent years how much extra freight passes through Leicester, sometimes 3 or 4 an hour at times!! No doubt helped by container trains routed via this way rather than via London. XC trains will revert to their pre-Covid timetable in May so have the hourly Leicester terminators plus hourly Cambridge/Stansteds.

Back of envelope -

For a stopping 7 car Meridian, it’s about 25 seconds.

For a non-stop freight through platform 2, it’s going to be the best part of 2 minutes.

In the live diagram extract (sorry if that's not absolutely the right technical term) posted at 1354 yesterday, how can signals LR 413 and 415 be off together, and a route set from both of their respective lines? Is there a wrong side interlocking failure going on?

The OpenTrainTimes diagram has not been updated to reflect the remodelling. There are now independent routes from each of these signals to 427 and 433 signals respectively.

It is also far from unknown for there to be errors in the data feed provided by NR, or in the interpretation thereof by websites.

A wrong side interlocking failure would be an exceptionally rare and serious event.

It can certainly be busy at times, and it’s a lot busier now than it was 10 or so years ago.

Just look at this scene for example a few minutes ago!
