One thing that I'm picking up from these forums is that the recruitment process can vary greatly in length. I'm wondering how long it took you, from initial application to actual start date (the point at which you became a paid employee, not the date you were offered a job). I'd also be interested to know how much quicker it is for qualifieds as opposed to trainees.

Trainee driver operator OTM's. I was about a year for me from start to finish. Roughly about 5 months to my DMI, 4 months to get OPC test date, 1.5 months to medical, and 1.5 months to my start date.

Four months. A couple of colleagues started a month sooner , but applied the same time. Your question for qualifieds will need to take into account that most tocs have are a three month notice period , so most qualified driver's will take around four months minimum .

30 months? Did they keep you well informed?
Unfortunately not. I thought the situation was dead in the water back last year. Got contacted to have a second dmi interview in January and it’s moved quickly since then. They said they couldn’t understand why I’d been left for so long.

Well, at least they caught you before you slipped through the net. Glad it worked out in the end

Thanks to everyone so for for not mentioning any TOC/FOCs. I wanted to know about people's experiences, not the company they dealt with. Perfect answers so far

29 months application to start date.
5 months from assessment and MMi to start date.
2 months from DMI and acceptance to start date.
When I got the invite to assessment and MMI email I'd completely forgotten about the application!

With regard the TOC I started with as a Trainee Driver it went like this:

Applied June 2015
Interview 22nd June 2015 (my application was never screened however I had passed assessments to enhanced level and got an interview off a phone call)
Medical 27th July 2015
Call for start date 30th September 2015
Start date 7th December 2015

Transferring as a Qualified:

Applied September/October 2018
Interview early January 2019
Start date Jan 2019
Started July 2019

Around 6 months. This of course was pre-Covid and I imagine waittimes will be significantly longer now because of a) various recruitment freezes / holds / delays and b) rises in candidate numbers c) whether you're applying for driver or something else!

A couple of guys have said they'd pretty much given up after not hearing from the TOC for ages, was this how it was for you?
Not really - my TOC kept me in the loop, it was just painfully slow. Months (anything from 2 to 14) between each step of the recruitment process...

I applied 2nd March last year. Had an update last week stating my application is in 'HR pass status' and awaiting a date for assessment. Won't be till end of year, if this year at all. Damn covid!!

Originally it was 4 months from application to original start date, but then corona pushed my start date back by almost a year
